Syed Shahid Hakim, who represented India in the 1960 Olympics and officiated as a referee in 33 international games later in his career, was 82 years old at the time of his death.
** Udupi: Veteran ‘kaddayi’ artiste Guruva Koraga passes away at 105
Hailing from Guddeangadi of Hiriyadka, Guruva started playing kaddayi (dollu) at the age of 12 years. He was also into farming and weaving baskets.
He was recognized at the national level in 1988 through Mangaluru Akashavani. He had dedicated his life to conservation of rich heritage and culture. He worked hard for the conservation of tribal cultures.

Picture this: Walking into a room with beautiful paintings and artefacts, people reading novels and discussing art, all the while sipping coffee and relishing ice-cream. This is Art Adda, a new hangout in Gadag that offers a range of activities, all under one roof. This unique initiative is the brainchild of artist Vijay Kiresur, a drawing teacher of Niralagi Government School in the district.
The cafe provides a platform to upcoming artists to showcase their paintings, and its parent organisation — Bannada Mane Samskrutik Vedike — gives a chance to musicians, artistes, speakers and upcoming actors to perform every Saturday evening at Art Adda.
** Wrestling against all odds… and winning
Meet Raju M, 33, whose never-say-die attitude helped him shake off the agony and pick himself up.
Since 2013, he has been bringing home awards and medals after winning competitions at the district, state, national and international levels, both in the para-athletics and general category competitions. In the last decade, he has netted more than 30 medals and several trophies. All these helped him qualify for the National World Championship held in 2018. After clinching a gold medal in the national category, Raju participated in the 21st World Para Arm-Wrestling Championship held at Antalya in Turkey in the same year.

Bhagya Puttalingappa, a native of Karnataka, has been practising yoga since the age of eight and her childhood passion earned her not only a double place in the India Book of Records, but she also earned a spot in the Canada Book of Records.
In the India Book of Records, Bhagya holds one record for performing Shirshasana (head standing pose) on a chair for one minute and seven seconds and another record for performing the maximum yoga poses standing on her head for one minute.
** Udupi: ‘Rotary MAHE Skin Bank’ inaugurated at Manipal Kasturba Hospital
Coastal Karnataka’s first-ever skin bank was inaugurated by Dr Ranjan R Pai, chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group. Rotary Club Manipal Town and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) partnered to establish ‘Rotary MAHE Skin Bank’ at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
Rotary Club Manipal Town received Rotary Foundation’s Global Grant for Rs 83 lac to procure the equipment, and MAHE contributed Rs 50 lac for the infrastructure creation.

Amana, who is 12 years old, has written 61 poems and published an anthology titled ‘Echoes of Soulful Poems’ in November 2020
