** Cat Club of India organises second International Championship Cat Show in Bengaluru

Tiny paws, whiskers and a room full of cat lovers. Sounds like a morning in paradise? This is what Sunday morning looked like in Bengaluru when The Cat Club of India held its second International Championship Cat Show at The Lalit Ashok. More than 170 cats, kittens and adults of different breeds from different parts of the country participated in the show. 

Bengal cats, Persian, Maine Coons, exotic short hair ones were present at the show. The criteria for choosing the winner was simple – presentation, cat’s overall health, his/her and temperament, says Sudhakar Katineni, one of the judges of the show. Upon entering, the cats were registered to participate in the show. The Maine Coons and Persian cats had a separate category, unlike all the other breeds that were judged together.

Having participated in about 10 contests and won seven titles, Sindhu Belliappa, a cat lover from Bengaluru, has 14 cats at her pet-friendly home.

** UPSC results: 26 from Karnataka selected for Civil Services  

NLSIU graduate Avinash V. secures 31st rank in his first attempt and emerges as topper in Karnataka

The results of the Civil Services examination 2021, which were announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday, brought cheer to 26 persons from Karnataka who were selected for the Civil Services.

Twenty-four-year-old law graduate from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU)-Bengaluru, Avinash V., secured the 31st rank in his first attempt and emerged as the Karnataka State topper.

Mr. Avinash is from Davangere and his parents are in the hotel business. He got his BA LLB degree from NLSIU in 2020-21. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Avinash said, “I am very happy that I achieved this rank in the first attempt. Family support, consistent study, and good guidance by my academy are the key points of my success.’’

“After I completed my degree, I immediately joined Insight Academy for coaching. I consistently read regularly for 6 to 7 hours daily. The Hindu helped me lot to build myself and I wanted to go for Indian Foreign Service (IFS),” he said.

** Kaup Diwakar Shetty awarded Aryabhata International Award

Kaup Diwakar Shetty has been awarded Aryabhata International Award in the field of ‘Co-operative Sector’ for contribution towards the society’ developement  &  upliftment.

The award function was held on May 25, 2022. Kaup Diwakar Shetty is the director of  Karnataka Milk Federation Bengaluru.

** Mangaluru: CA S V Acharya honoured with A Shama Rao Memorial Outstanding Achievers Award

A Shama Rao Memorial Outstanding Achievers Award 2022 was presented to USA SNOM Trust president emeritus CA Sagri Vasudeva Acharya on Friday May 27 at Srinivas University Mukka campus.

After receiving the award, Acharya said, “Three things should have more emphasize in life. Time, help and wealth. Give time for yourself and help who are yours when they need, earn and use your wealth to communicate on a large scale.”

** Mangaluru: Noted Konkani litterateur CGS Taccode passes away at 71

Noted Konkani litterateur, King of Konkani humour literature Cyril G Sequeira, popularly known by his pen name ‘CGS Taccode’ passed away on Saturday May 28. He was 71. He was battling cancer from quite some time, informed family sources. 

Born in Taccode, Cyril did his earlier education in Taccode, Moodbidri and Bengaluru. CGS started to write in Konkani when he was 12. He was writing since the last 5 decades. He was the sub editor of Raknno weekly. Later he also worked as the editor of ‘Kannik’ and ‘Umallo’ Konkani periodicals. CGS, though has written in all forms of literature, was more known for his humorous writings.

** 75 places in Karnataka to host events to raise awareness on state’s contribution to Independence

To mark the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav event on a big scale, the Kannada and cultural department has announced that it would hold events in 75 places across Karnataka to raise awareness on the state’s contribution under the ‘Amrita Bharathi Kannadaarti’ campaign. 

As a part of the campaign for 75 years of Indian independence and Karnataka’s contribution, the department on Tuesday unveiled a booklet, title song and a short video.

** Historians call for conservation of dolmens in Chikkanahalli

The mega dolmens, a type of stone monuments, are from the Stone Age, and are found in Chikkanahalli.

** Blood art 

It’s truly a labour of blood and sweat for Sangamesh Bagli. The 52-year-old drawing teacher from Jamkhandi has painted a stupendous 325 paintings and portraits, using his own blood as dye for the sketches. Sangamesh Bagli, employed with a state-run high school at Hosur village, and a resident of Jamkhandi town, stands apart from other professional painters for his choice of medium. Though he’s also done thousands of paintings in regular colours, he says his sketches in blood have left many people, including elected representatives and bureaucrats, speechless.

Sangamesh has used his blood to paint portraits of social reformers from the 12th century to the 21st century, freedom fighters who lived between 1857 and 1947, Bharat Ratna awardees, scientists, sports personalities and politicians, besides theme-based paintings on social issues. Sangamesh says he needs at least 15ml of blood for each portrait, and over 20ml for theme-based paintings. He and his family members claim that the loss of blood has never made him ill. After drawing blood for a painting, he takes a day to complete a portrait.

** Mangaluru girl comes 2nd in national bike rally

On a day with full of slush and action on different types of roads, and a river crossing, the second round of the MRF MoGrip FMSCI National Rally Championship 2W 2022 was held in Mangaluru recently.

Apoorva B., 25, from Mangaluru came second in the Ladies’ Class in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Fazeela from Ernakulam came first in the 2nd round, and Aishwariya Pisay came first in the 1st round held in Chikkamagaluru. The third round will be held in Coimbatore.
