The centre will roll out solutions supported by next-level AI, ML, data analytics, 3D and digital wins, Multiphysics modeling & IIoT tech

ABB, a technology company, inaugurated a new and expanded R&D and engineering facility named ABB Innovation Center (AIC), in Bengaluru on March 30.

This facility is one of ABB’s largest globally, and serves as the backbone for technology developments to accelerate innovation. It will employ 2,500 diverse technologists, including engineers, principal and data scientists, architects, domain and analytics specialists, programmers, and developers.

** Defence Ministry inks two contracts worth ₹3,102 crore with BEL

Deals include supply of Advanced Electronic Warfare suite for fighter aircraft

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed two contracts worth ₹3,102 crore with the Bengaluru and Hyderabad units of the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), in New Delhi.

The MoD and the BEL-Bengaluru concluded the contract for the supply of Advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The overall cost is estimated to be ₹1,993 crore, as per a statement from BEL on Wednesday.

Koraga Poojary has been a successful watermelon cultivator. In this season, he has cultivated an improved species of watermelon, ‘platinum’. Because of the handiwork of the middlemen, the farmers are not getting good prices for their products. At the same time, the customers too do not get products at reasonable prices. Koraga Poojary, who thought over this situation, decided to skip the middlemen and directly sell the watermelons to the customers under the concept, ‘farm to customer’.

** Bengaluru airport bags best airport, aviation innovation awards

The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), based on its customer-centric approach, smart innovations and adoption of cutting-edge technology, has won two major accolades at the Wings India Awards 2022. It has been adjudged the “Best Airport” under the general category, and has won the “Aviation Innovation” award. 

This recognition is one of the industry’s most recognised accolades, and are awarded following an assessment of customer service, facilities and innovations. The awards were conferred by Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia, in the presence of senior officials from the MoCA, industry leaders, and stakeholders in Hyderabad.

** Shashwat Rao wins Snow Marathon in Lahaul, Dolma Tenzin first among women

: Shashwat Rao of Karnataka won the Snow Marathon with a timing of 4:41:07, here on Saturday. Meanwhile, in the women’s category, local girl Dolma Tenzin was the fastest and she completed her race in five hours and five minutes, thirty seconds.

Snow Marathon Lahaul, conceptualised by Event Founder Guarav Schimar and organised by Reach India and supported by the District Administration of Lahaul and Spiti district (Himachal Pradesh) saw the participation of over 100 sportsmen and women.

“This was the first time that a snow marathon was organised in the country. Till now, snow marathons were conducted in countries of the cold icy regions such as the polar circles, Antarctica, Russia and northern Europe. With Snow Marathon Lahaul, India not only stepped into the elite club of countries where Snow Marathons are organised but by organising it at an elevation of above 10,000 feet, it now holds the distinction of organising a snow marathon at the highest altitude,” said Gaurav.

In the 21 kilometres – Half Marathon category, Rohan stood first in the men’s section with two hours 53 minutes while amongst the women, the title went to Diksha, who clocked two hours 59 minutes.

The ten-kilometre run was won by Daulat Ram who took one hour and four minutes while Hemlata placed first in her category who covered the distance in one hour and twenty minutes. Navneet emerged as winner in the five-kilometer category while Shrishti grabbed the title in women’s category.

In view of creating enthusiasm among locals for running, a one-kilometer race was also organised wherein a massive participation from children and women was seen. The brand ambassador of the marathon – Kieren D’Souza also graced the occasion and ran 10 kms along with the participants.

** Karnataka Tuberculosis Division bags 14 medals for performance

The Central TB division presented five districts in the state with “silver” for reduction of 40 per cent and nine “bronze” honors for observing a 20 per cent drop in cases from the baseline. 

Despite the fact that the Karnataka has been hit by three waves of the pandemic, the State Tuberculosis Division has received 14 awards for its annual performance.

Under the initiative of “Sub-National Certification of Progress Towards TB Free Status”, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recognises and awards the best performing districts and State for reducing the TB burden as compared to 2015. 

Congratulating the TB officers and health care staff working towards making Karnataka TB-free, Dr K Sudhakar, Minister for Health and Family Welfare took to twitter and announced the winning districts.

** Bosch signs MoU with JSS STU for courses on cyber security

Bosch Global Software Technologies (BGSW) recently signed an MoU with JSS Science and Technology University (STU) to start an industry elective course on Cyber Security and Industry 4.0.

BGSW is a 100 per cent owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH. It is one of the world’s leading global suppliers of technology and services, offering end-to-end Engineering, IT, and Business Solutions, a release from JSS STU said.

Courses offered by industries will give a lot of practical exposure to students and will help universities to implement and teach the latest technologies. JSS STU is the first university in India to have collaborated with Bosch for cyber security courses, it said
