** Bengaluru entrepreneur to float $1bn venture fund

Our plan is to launch at least five additional venture funds focused on diverse domains to support the growth of the female economy in multiple geographies’

Bengaluru-based venture capitalist, Ankita Vashishta, will launch a $1 billion venture capital fund to assist 1,000 women-led or women-focused start-ups in India and overseas in the next five years.

To start with, her venture firm, StrongHer Ventures, floated a $100 million venture fund to fund women start-ups in fintech, future of work, healthcare, consumer, and Web 3.0 that comprises crypto (NXT), metaverse, blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, etc.

** UPCL distributes ₹20 lakh scholarships to 905 students

Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) and Adani Foundation distributed ₹20 lakh scholarships to 905 meritorious students residing in the jurisdiction of 12 gram panchayats around the UPCL plant, Nandikur, in Udupi district, on Sunday.

The scholarships were distributed at a function organised in Padubidri.

Speaking on the occasion, president and executive director of UPCL Kishore Alva said that the respective gram panchyats identified the students. Students who have secured 85% and above marks in their academics during 2020-21 in SSLC, ITI, PU, diploma, graduation, post-graduation, engineering and medical courses were given away scholarships from the Corporate Social Responsibility Fund of the UPCL. It will motivate them to pursue higher education

Karnataka Yakshagana Academy has selected writer Kabbinale Vasanth Bharadwaj for its prestigious Parthi Subba Award for 2021. The award comes with a ₹1 lakh cash prize, a certificate, a citation, a shawl with a garland and a peta.

The academy has chosen five persons for its honorary award for 2021. They are Sathyanarayana Hasyagara, Muttappa Taniya Poojary, Narendra Kumar Jain, Moodalagiriyappa and N. T. Moorthacharya. The award carries a ₹50,000 cash prize, a certificate, a citation, a shawl with a garland and a peta.

The academy said that its annual Yaksha Siri award for 2021 will be presented to 10 persons. They are Haladi Jayarama Shetty, Gopala Ganiga Ajri, Bolar Subbaiah Shetty, Sethuru Ananthapadmanabha Rao, Kadathoka Lakshminarayana Shambu Bhagavatha, Rama Salian Mangalpady, Kokkada Ishwara Bhat, Adigona Bheeranna Naik, Bhadraiah and Basavarajappa. This award carries a ₹25,000 cash prize, a certificate, a garland and a peta.

** CM inaugurates forensic science lab in Hubballi

We’ve have appointed 450 scientific officers, says Home Minister

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated a forensic science laboratory in Hubballi on Sunday.

The hi-tech laboratory set up at a cost of ₹4.5 crore, will analyse samples of material and provide evidence to help solve crime, he said.

It has wings that will look into DNA, Cyber Crime, audio-video clips, mobile forensics and physics. The State Government will also set up a narcotics wing in two-three months, the Chief Minister said.
