Karnataka ranks first in renewable rich States with 15 GW of installed capacity base and another 9 GW of green capacity being under implementation

Karnataka distribution companies (discoms) have become the top seller of renewable energy under the Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM) at the Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IEX).

Power Company of Karnataka Limited (PCKL) has a market share of 74% on the sell side in IEX GTAM market since its inception, selling 2.67 billion units (BU) out of 3.6 BU on the exchange till January, 2022, IEX officials said, adding that Karnataka is now also leveraging the recently commenced Green Day Ahead Market (GDAM) for sale of its surplus renewable power.

Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana’s grave found in Karnataka’s Mudigere

Scribes who got three books related to complete history of Shashakapura Hoysals, went on to do research on the last days of Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana.

Old Shashakapura and now called Angadi village in Mudigere taluk was the origin of Historically famed Hoysala dynasty. Fourth king of Hoysala dynasty Vishnuvardhana was most famous and his grave has been discovered just outside Mudigere town.

** Bengaluru-based Ricky Kej wins second Grammy

The US-born musician shared the award with Stewart Copeland, the drummer of the iconic British rock band The Police, who collaborated with Kej on the album.

 Music composer Ricky Kej, based out of Bengaluru, has won his second Grammy in the best new album category for ‘Divine Tides’.

“So grateful to have won the Grammy Award for our album ‘Divine Tides’. Absolutely love this living-legend standing next to me – Stewart Copeland. Love all of you too! This is my 2nd Grammy Award and Stewart’s 6th,” he wrote alongside a picture with Copeland.

In 2015, Kej took home a Grammy in the best new age album category for ‘Winds of Samsara’.

** Mangaluru: Cops getting CM’s medal in Akash Bhawan Sharan, Pinky Nawaz case feted

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Monday, April 4 felicitated the six police officers including two women working under the Mangaluru police commissionerate who have been chosen for the prestigious Chief Minister’s Medal. He also honoured the team which earlier nabbed Rohidas alias Akash Bhavan Sharan and Suratkal Pinky Nawaz, on whom Goonda Act was slapped by the high court.

The team which nabbed Rohidas alias Akash Bhavan Sharan and Surathkal Pinky Nawaz, include DCP Law and Order Hariram Shankar, ACP North Mahesh Kumar, ACP CCRB Ravish, Kavoor police inspector Raghav Padil, Suratkal station inspector Chandrappa and others were also honoured by the police commissioner.

** Francis Buchanan’s book translated to Kannada

Francis Buchanan-Hamilton’s book ‘A Journey from Madras through the Countries of Mysore, Canara and Malabar’ has been translated into Kannada. 

The popular Scottish physician made significant contributions as a geographer, zoologist, and botanist while living in India under the East India Company. The book originally published in 1807 talks at length about the people, culture and customs of of the region.

“He was appointed by the East India Company to survey these regions, to help them better administer the people. It is a great research material,” says Shailaja G P, translator of the book.

HAL scales new peak, sees revenue of over Rs 24K crore

Aerospace giant Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has recorded the highest ever revenue of over Rs 24,000 crore (provisional and unaudited) for the financial year ending March 31, 2022, registering a 6 % revenue growth over the previous financial year. The corresponding figure for the previous year stood at Rs 22,755 crore.

“Despite the challenges of the second wave of Covid-19 during the first quarter of the year and the consequent production loss, the Company could meet the targeted revenue growth with improved performance during the balance period of the year”, said R Madhavan, Chairman & Managing Director, HAL.

HAL achieved record revenue with the production of 44 new helicopters/aircraft, 84 new engines, overhauled 203 aircraft/helicopters and 478 engines.
