Kundapur: Popular cine star Dr Ramesh Arvind conferred with Dr Shivarama Karanth award

Dr Ramesh Arvind, popular film actor and director was conferred the Dr Shivarama Karanth award on Monday October 10. The award was presented to him considering his services on a national level as an actor, director and resource person.

Addressing the gathering, J C Madhuswamy, Karnataka minister of law, parliamentary affairs and legislation and minor irrigation said, “Shivarama Karanth was a walking cyclopaedia.” The minister inaugurated the birth anniversary of Shivarama Karanth at the award ceremony at Kota Shambhavi school premises.

“Karanth was a guide for the growth of the language. His contributions to literature, history of the state, language, art and culture are immense. The contribution by the seaside people for the prosperity of Kannada language is valuable,” he said.

“Artistes reduce the mental stress of people by their acting. Awarding Karanth hometown award to actor and director Ramesh Arvind is a fitting choice,” he said.

Kotatattu gram panchayat president Ashwini Dinesh presided over the programme. A book titled ‘Solu Antimavalla’ by Narendra Kumar Kota was released. Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary gave an introductory speech.

Coastal development authority president Mattar Rathnaker Hegde, Mysore Electricals Industries president Udaya Kumar Shetty, state food and civil supplies corporation vice president Kiran Kodgi, Kannada and culture department assistant director Poornima, taluk panchayat executive officer H V Ibrahimpur, Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Neelavar Surendra Adiga, Kota Ibrahim Saheb, Brahmavar Tahsildar Rajashekarmurthy, Kota gram panchayat president Ajith Devadiga, Saligram town panchayat president Sulatha Hegde and others were present.

President of the Prathistana Anand C Kunder welcomed. Award selection committee convener U S Shenoy spoke. Sridhar Hande introduced the award recipient. Panchayat development officer Jayaram Shetty rendered a vote of thanks. Narendra Kumar Kota compered the programme. Sathish Vaddarse conducted the programme.

A procession was held prior to the programme which was carried from Kotathattu panchayat after offering tributes to the statue of Karanth at Theme park and progressed to the dais.

Alvas Education trust, Moodbidri students conducted a cultural programme after the event.
