Karnataka Bank is conferred with the prestigious ‘Top Organizations with Innovative HR Practices’ award at the 19th edition of Asia Pacific HRM Congress held on October 26 in Bengaluru.
Mahalingeshwara K, general manager, HR & IR and Chief Learning Officer (CLO), representing the bank received the award at the event. The award is presented to the bank for effectively implementing innovative HR practices for Human Resource Development and Talent Management.
** Udupi: Laxminarayana Nayak – Philatelist par excellence from Kallianpur
Laxminarayana Nayak from Kallianpur here has been an avid philatelist, and he has been collecting stamps for the last 40 years. His collection boasts of about 28,000 different types of rare stamps. Nayak is of the opinion that if the children cultivate such hobbies their thought process will expand and the time they spend will be worthwhile unlike the mobile addiction that results in wastage of time.
Perhaps he is among the firsts in coastal Karnataka to be having a special collection relating to Kannada Rajyotsava. Out of 95 stamps released by the state government about different achievers, tourist spots and centres of faith, water, land, culture, etic, Nayak has 87.
** Professor Sharada Srinivasan gets Woman Engineer of the Year award
Padma Shri awardee Professor Sharada Srinivasan has added yet another accolade to her expansive list of accomplishments by being one of three women to be chosen for the Indian National Academy of Engineering’s Woman Engineer of the Year award in 2021.
The title is awarded by the academy to women who have made breakthrough contributions to the fields of technology and engineering in India. She is a professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru.

In a time where inspiration and endurance is wearing thin, Durga Venkatesh, a make-up artist and bespoke fashion designer, has chosen to take life by the hems. Venkatesh, who has lived in Bengaluru since her childhood, currently holds the world record for the fastest number of saree styles draped, having been attested by the Limca Book of Records, India Book of Records, Asia Book of Records, Asian World Records, British World Records, and, most recently, the Kalam’s World Records in August.
In addition to this, she also won the Divalicious Mrs South India Universe title for 2019, and manages her own make-up salon and academy, Durga Makeup Studio & Academy in JP Nagar.

** Skill India: CFTRI to train entrepreneurs in baking tech

A 4-week Skill Development Programme on “Baking Technology” will be conducted at CSIR-CFTRI as a part of Skill India Initiative. The programme will be held from November 15 to December 10.
Those who have completed matriculation or entrepreneurs having interest in the bakery industry can seek admission to the programme. The course fee has been fixed at ₹25,000 plus GST (total ₹ 29,500) per person.

** DCTE signs MoU with Infosys to transform method of learning
The Department of Collegiate & Technical Education (DCTE) has entered into an MoU with IT major Infosys for transforming the method of learning by students of higher education and shape their careers.
The initiative, taken up under the “Help Educate” programme, is expected to benefit about five lakh students and faculty every year, according to a release by DCTE. The MoU was signed on Wednesday in the presence of Higher Education Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan. The Minister told reporters that this would facilitate blended learning and industry readiness of learners as per the aspirations of New Education Policy
** Hassan girl to serve UN Peacekeeping Force
M B Preethi, a native of Bettasathenahalli, in Holenarasipur taluk, has been selected for the United Nations Peacekeeping operations.
She is the only woman selected from Karnataka.
