** DFRL’s ready-to-eat menu for Gaganyaan mission

A slew of technologies showcased at two-day expo

The Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) in Mysuru has prepared a slew of ready-to-eat dishes tailor-made for India’s space programme Gaganyaan.

The DFRL has prepared about 40 to 50 menus comprising both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items and the trials are in the preliminary stages.

The items include potato-stuffed paratha, vegetable biriyani, dal chawal, sambar chawal, rajma chawal, kichdi, preserved chapatis, veg katti roll, chicken biriyani, chicken katti roll, egg katti roll, chikki, instant tea and coffee mix, sooji halwa, garlic and mango pickle, and tomato sauce.

Some of the technologies developed by the DFRL were on display at the two-day exhibition of technologies and products to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which commenced here on Monday.

** Writer Rajeshwari Tejaswi passes away

She wrote her first book shortly after the demise of her husband, and was an account of their life together

Rajeshwari Tejaswi, 84, writer and wife of late writer K. P. Poornachandra Tejaswi, passed away in Bengaluru on December 14.

Rajeshwari began writing only after the death of Tejaswi in 2007. She wrote her first book ‘Nanna Tejaswi’ shortly after Tejaswi’s demise, and was an account of their life together. The book went on to have over six reprints. She later wrote a personal memoir titled ‘Namma Menegoo Bandaru Gandhiji’. Apart from being a writer, she was a passionate philatelist and gardener. She collected rare seeds during her travels.

She had been actively involved in the activities of K.P. Poornachandra Tejaswi Trust at Kottigehara in Mudigere taluk.

** NGO helps iron wallahs migrate from coal to LPG-powered boxes

A pilot revealed that the shift resulted in increased productivity and earnings and reduced health issues

Udhyam Vyapaar, a part of Udhyam Learning Foundation, a Bengaluru-based NGO founded by ex-Flipkart CPO Mekin Maheshwari, is trying to iron out the problems faced by iron wallahs by helping them migrate from coal to LPG-powered boxes.

** Dr Ronald Colaco conferred ‘Koti-Chennaya Award’ at Moodbidri Kambala

Well-known NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr Ronald Colaco was honoured with the ‘Koti-Chennaya Award’ during the 19th Koti-Chennaya Jodukare Kambala held on Saturday December 11 and Sunday December 12 near here.

Veteran RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, minister for urban development Byrathi Basavaraj, MP and president of Karnataka BJP Nalin Kumar Kateel, minister for fisheries S Angara, minister for social welfare Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA and honorary president of Moodbidri Kambala committee Umanath Kotian, and other dignitaries honoured Dr Colaco with the Koti-Chennaya Award, along with a memento, shawl and fruit basket.

He did not limit his service to only some particular sections of the society. He tried to understand the immediate necessities of people from all sections in his surroundings. He is one of the great supporters of Moodbidri Kambala. We have named the main stage of this Kambala after his father Fabian Colaco. ** Wins U-18 Tourney In Vancouver

Mysuru boy, 14-year-old Mustafa Raja won his first U-18 Tournament in Vancouver, Canada, today.

Mustafa, seeded fifth in the Tennis BC U18 4 Star Tournament, held his nerves at crucial moments, saving two match points in the finals, winning the tournament defeating the top seeded player Denny Bao 2,6; 7,6(7) and 6,1.

By virtue of this win, Mustafa became the top player in his age category in British Columbia and Top 4 in Canada. Mustafa trains at the Tennis Centre in Surrey, Vancouver and studies at the Sullivan heights Secondary School.

Octogenarian twins Ronald and Donald D’Silva from Udupi repair and restore musical instruments out of their pure love for music.

From a 70-year-old violin to a timeless guitar, the D’Silva twins have been repairing and restoring musical instruments for over half-a-century. Octogenarian brothers Ronald and Donald D’Silva from the coastal village of Salumara Kodavoor near Malpe in Udupi district have been giving a new lease of life to musical instruments that are in dire need of repair.

** Dr. Rajkumar’s ancestral home in Gajanur to house a photo museum

Here is some good news for fans of the late matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar. The actor’s ancestral house at Doddagajanur on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border will soon be turned into a photo museum housing photographs of the late actor and his family. The more than a century-old, tiled-roof structure will have a rare collection of photos of the Rajkumar family, including his son-actor Puneeth— fondly called Appu, who passed away recently.

The family has taken up the restoration of this dilapidated house to fulfill Appu’s dreams. Gopal, a nephew of Dr. Rajkumar, said that Puneeth, who visited Gajanur three months before his death, was disappointed seeing the condition of the house. He told his family members to repair the house as they had an emotional connection with it.

** Karnataka: Integrative cancer centre opens, offers ayurveda treatment

In a first in India, two hospitals will be collaborating to provide ayurvedic treatment to cancer patients in Bengaluru. Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SSCHRC), and AyurVAID Hospitals have set up a centre where patients can undergo ayurvedic treatment to alleviate effects of both cancer and cancer treatment.

Speaking at the launch of the Centre for Integrative Oncology (CIO), Dr B S Srinath, managing trustee for SSCHRC, said, “Both systems of medicine have their own strengths, it’s time for both of them to come together so that patients can get benefits from both sides.”
