** World Senior Badminton Tournament At Spain: Government School Maths Teacher Wins Bronze Medal

Sunil Gladson Varadaraj, who works as an Assistant Teacher at Hosamalangi Government High School in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar, is the one who had excelled at track & field events during school days and then was part of State Kho Kho team before switching to shuttle badminton.

Now, adding feather to his cap is the Bronze Medal he won at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Senior Badminton Championship held at Carolina Marin Stadium in Huelva of Spain between Nov. 28 and Dec. 4, 2021.

With this win, he becomes the first Mysurean to win a medal at BWF World Championship.

Partnering with Abhinand K. Shetty of Bengaluru, Sunil won Bronze Medal in the Men’s 40-plus Doubles category at the Tournament. In semi-finals, Sunil-Abhinand duo lost to JBS Vidyadhar-Ajit B. Umrani 10-21, 14-21.

** 5-yr-old in Bengaluru sets world record in coding

Five-year-old Sunvisha C Nair, a student of Christ KG at SG Palya, has emerged as the ‘world’s youngest person to code decimal and its corresponding octal, hexadecimal and binary coding of 1-15, in a number system’. 

With this, the child, who was 4 years 11 months 13 days-old at the time of her record, has written the binary, octal and hexadecimal equivalent of the decimal (conventionally-used everyday number system) from 1 to 15.

** DFRL’s ready-to-eat menu for Gaganyaan mission

A slew of technologies showcased at two-day expo

The Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) in Mysuru has prepared a slew of ready-to-eat dishes tailor-made for India’s space programme Gaganyaan.

The DFRL has prepared about 40 to 50 menus comprising both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items and the trials are in the preliminary stages.

The items include potato-stuffed paratha, vegetable biriyani, dal chawal, sambar chawal, rajma chawal, kichdi, preserved chapatis, veg katti roll, chicken biriyani, chicken katti roll, egg katti roll, chikki, instant tea and coffee mix, sooji halwa, garlic and mango pickle, and tomato sauce.

Some of the technologies developed by the DFRL were on display at the two-day exhibition of technologies and products to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which commenced here on Monday.

** Wins U-18 Tourney In Vancouver

Mysuru boy, 14-year-old Mustafa Raja won his first U-18 Tournament in Vancouver, Canada, today.

Mustafa, seeded fifth in the Tennis BC U18 4 Star Tournament, held his nerves at crucial moments, saving two match points in the finals, winning the tournament defeating the top seeded player Denny Bao 2,6; 7,6(7) and 6,1.

By virtue of this win, Mustafa became the top player in his age category in British Columbia and Top 4 in Canada. Mustafa trains at the Tennis Centre in Surrey, Vancouver and studies at the Sullivan heights Secondary School.

** Six Bengaluru international schools top national rankings

Six international schools of Bengaluru came out on top, according to the Education World India School Rankings (EWISR) 2021-22.

The six schools are placed in the top-10 for best day and day-cum-boarding schools in India.

Indus International School was named the best international day-cum-boarding school in India, while The International School, Greenwood High International, and Stonehill International School took the second, third and fourth ranks, respectively.

Sharanya Narayani International School, Bengaluru, was ranked the ninth best in the same category. 

Meanwhile, Legacy School, Bengaluru, was ranked eighth best in the country in terms of international day schools, according to the EWISR.

** ‘50 Years Of Progressing UAE’ Painting Bags Award

Chinnamada Shilpika Ponnappa, who has her roots in Kodagu, has bagged the ‘Special Mention — Best Ideation Award’ and a trophy for her painting with a theme ‘50 years of progressing UAE’ organised at Artoze Art Competition in Abu Dhabi as part of Celebrating 50 Glorious Years of UAE.

** Winners Of National-Level Karate Championship

The Karatekas of IKA Karate Academy, Mysuru and Kali Warriors Academy, Karnataka, under Pekiti Tirsia Kali India in city, have bagged various prizes in the 3rd National-level Karate Championship organised by Shotokan Karate Do Sports Association and Sensei Durganada on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 in Hubballi.
