** KPCL achieves record power generation

Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (KPCL) achieved maximum daily power generation of 121.708 million units (MU), which includes the highest ever thermal power generation of 80.253 MU, on March 27.

With this highest power generation, it surpassed its own previous record generation of 77.329 MU from thermal and 40 MU from hydro and other sources, totalling to 117.22 MU, on March 25.

** Prasanna elected president of MYMUL

Prasanna was on Tuesday elected as the new president of Mysuru District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Societies’ Union Ltd (MYMUL).

Sources in MYMUL said Mr. Prasanna, who is the son of K. Mahadev, JD(S) MLA representing Periyapatna Assembly constituency, is scheduled to take charge of his post on Wednesday.He was one of the 15 directors of MYMUL elected in the recent polls. On Tuesday, he was unanimously elected as the president.

** Puttur: Two rural lasses qualify to serve nation through BSF

Two ladies from Dakshina Kannada district have been chosen to serve the Border Security Force (BSF) that keeps vigil on the country’s borders. They will report to their BSF bosses and begin to serve the force on April 1.

The girls who have cleared the rigorous process of selection of the BSF are Ramya from Balnadu and Yogitha from Kanoyoor in Kadaba taluk. Ramya happens to be the daughter of Padmayya Gowda and Tejavathi couple from Balnadu.

** Karwar woman single-handedly digs 60-ft well, satiates neighbours’ thirst

When the country was under lockdown, and people had huddled together inside their homes, Gauri Naik (56) from Ganesh Nagar, Sirsi in the district, went out on her own and singlehandedly dug a 60-feet well and extracted water. She has achieved this feat not once, but twice. She had dug another well of the same depth.

** Mangaluru: Prestigious ‘PaGo’ award conferred on journalist Pradesh Marody

The prestigious ‘PaGo’ award for the year 2020 was conferred on journalist Pradesh H Marody, reporter/sub-editor at Prajavani in rural reporting here at Press Club on Tuesday March 30.

The award has been instituted in memory of P Gopalakrishna by PaGo Memorial Trust and is presented annually by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union (DKWJU).

The award was presented for his article ‘Kelutila Male Makkala Alalu’ published on June 25, 2020.

** 2 B’luru labs got just 137 Covid samples from state for genome sequencing

Only 137 Covid samples from Karnataka were received for genome sequencing, till March 10, although the combined capacity of the two labs in Bengaluru – NIMHANS and NCBS-InStem – that are part of INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium) is 2,400 samples per month.

This appointment has been made to the mutt a year after a Muslim youth was appointed head of a branch of a lingayat mutt in Asuti village in Gadag district.

Murughendra Koraneshwar Swamiji on Monday announced the appointment of Neelalochana Taayi  as his successor in a simple function held on the mutt’s premises in Khajuri village which borders Maharashtra.
