The award from the India Today group to Karnataka as the Best State in Combating Covid 19 has given a big boost and impetus to work still more, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar said in New Delhi on Sunday.

Addressing the media in New Delhi on Sunday, Dr Sudhakar, who is in Delhi to receive the prestigious ‘India Today Healthgiri Award’ for the State’s extra-ordinary and successful efforts in Covid management from Union Health Minister Mansukh Madaviya on Saturday, said the State Government had taken pro-active steps against the Covid 19 pandemic and had enforced lockdown even before Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced it all over the country last yea

** Mysuru Lad Emerges Canadian National Champion – 2021

Mysuru-boy Mustafa M. Raja, who won the Provincial Championships in British Columbia last month and was selected for the Nationals to be held in Montreal, Quebec, did well and emerged National Doubles Champion. Mustafa also came third in Singles.

The 14-year-old played consistent tennis all week at the 14-and-under Nationals held at the Carrefour Tennis Centre from Sept. 20 to 26.  Tournament was held outdoors on clay courts.

Mustafa was awarded a trophy for the National Doubles Champion, trophy for the third place in Singles and a silver medal for the provincial standings. With this performance, Mustafa will break into top 5 Singles rankings in Canada. Mustafa trains at the Tennis Centre in Vancouver and goes to Sullivan Heights Secondary School.

Mustafa, son of Murtuza Raja and Farida Raja, earlier train at the Nagaraj Tennis Centre in Mysuru for seven years and attended Excel Public School in Mysuru.

** Wins Bronze In State Aquatic Championship

H.N. Nehasiri, a student of Bangalore Swimming Research Centre, Chamundi Vihar Swimming Pool, Nazarbad, who took part in the Karnataka State Sub-Junior Aquatic Championship 2021-22 held at Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre in Bengaluru on Sept. 23, has secured Bronze Medal in 100 mts Butterfly event (Group 4 – Girls).

** Bengaluru, Mysuru among nine cities for Centre’s e-vehicle thrust

The e-bus procured on Thursday will be launched on November 1.

Two cities from Karnataka — Bengaluru and Mysuru — are among the nine nationwide that have been selected for the Centre’s ‘Grand Challenge’ to deploy more electric vehicles (EVs) under public transport. 

The challenge was announced on Thursday, on a day when Bengaluru got its first e-bus, said Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation  Commissioner Anbu Kumar.
