** Agri war room’ reopens in Bengaluru to help farmers

The war room would help farmers seek guidance on the price situation in different markets for their produce including vegetables, fruits, and flowers. They can also get information on availability of farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, farm implements, and subsidy schemes, Agriculture Minister B.C. Patil said.

Farmers can seek guidance from the department by calling helplines 080-22212818 and 080- 22210237 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Two technical officers and a deputy director (agriculture) will monitor the helpline.

First time sale of ‘Live Fish’ in the State by Karnataka State Fisheries (KCFF) : December 2014

The live fish (Pangasius fish) has been cultured for the first time by the Federation at KRS from August this year. This live fish is being brought from KRS and stored live in water tanks. After customer selection the fish is weighed and sold live – fresh.

The fresh water live fish is being sold on an experimental basis at 2 centres in Mysuru : Kukkarahalli lake and at the Fish Centre on Hunsur road and Valmiki road junction

Karnataka becomes First State in India to create ‘ Special Tiger Protection Force’ (STPF) – August 2012

Karnataka becomes first state in India to create the ‘Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) in the Bandipur Tiger Reserve to enhance its conservation efforts. It is India’s first forest ranger unit created and tasked specifically to prevent tiger poaching.

Karnataka state has about 6 tiger reserves.

The Central Government has an ongoing centrally sponsored scheme of ‘Project Tiger’ under the Environment and Forest Ministry, Government of India.  100% percent Central assistance is provided to States for raising, arming and deploying in sensitive tiger reserves.
