** DRDO to aid hospitals generate oxygen on site

The Medical Oxygen Plant (MOP) technology, developed by DRDO for on-board oxygen generation in the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas by DRDO’s Bengaluru-based Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory (DEBEL), will now be employed in the fight against the current crisis of oxygen for Covid-19 patients.

The same technology generates oxygen for fighter pilots flying the Tejas at high altitudes.

Bangalore City – First City in India to introduce Volvo Buses : 2005

Karnataka became the first State in India and Bengaluru became the first City in India to place an order for Volvo Buses.

The first order for 25 buses was from BMTC, the city’s bus operator,

The chasis was the Volvo BTRLE assembled at Volvo’s factory in Bangalore. The body was built on the same design as Volvo 8700, used in Europe with a 7-litre engine that meets the Euro 3 emission regulations

India’s First ‘Triumph Motorcycles’ showroom launched in Bengaluru : January 2014

January 21st, 2014-Tuesday. Triumph Motorcycles opens its first luxury 2 wheeler brand showroom in India with its new brand identity in Bengaluru.

The British motorcycle brand has a tie-up with the Bengaluru-based KEERTHI MOTORS who have an integrated after-sales service. This is the first fully equipped dealership in India – which will provide International standards of sales, service and spare parts. The showroom has an array of Triumph merchandise including riding gears, accessories and memorabilia.

The Bengaluru showroom was followed by launching dealerships in Hyderabad, Kochi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi.

Bangalore City Station becomes India’s First Train Station with WiFi for Passengers: October 2014

The Union Minister for Railyways D.V.Sadananda Gowda recently inaugrated the facility.

Bangalore City’s Railway Station has become the first railway station in the country to have WiFi facility that will provide high speed internet to passengers.

The facility has been created by RailTel with a gigabit ethernet network using optic fibre in a ring. RailTel has been mandated by Railyways to provide WiFi facility at major railway stations.

‘RailWire’ the retail broadband distribution of RailTel Corporation of India (a PSU of Ministry of Railways) is the powering engine for distribution internet bandwith through WiFi.

Free of Cost:

The WiFi facility will be available to the passengers on their mobile phones free of charge for the first 30 minutes.

Subsequently the user can purchase scratch cards for additional usage. The scratch cards are to be priced Rs 25 for 30 minutes and Rs 35 for one hour with a validity of 24 hours.

Karnataka’s First Hovercraft : September 2014

Panambur Beach, near Indian Coast Guard (ICG) – Karnataka Head Quarters, Mangalore

It is the first time that a Hovercraft is stationed in Karnataka State. Monday, September 22nd, 2014

The 21m long Hovercraft H-196 is 3rd in the series of Air cushion vehicles manufactured in the United Kingdom.

This Hovercraft temporarily based in Panambur beach is first of the 2 scheduled for Mangalore. A permanent Hoverport facility will be developed over a 15-acre site at Tannirbhavi beach.

The amphibious vehicle with a speed of 45 knots (90Kmph) becomes the fasted vehicle in the Coast Guard fleet in the state. This will now boost the patrolling capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard in the State which will keep an eye on the 320-km long Karnataka coastline.

The crew manning the hovercraft had obtained specialised training in London.

India’s First Electric Bus launched in Bangalore : February 2014

Banglore City’s BMTC has taken the initiative to launch the first electric bus on Indian roads, plying the busy route of the Majestic-Kadugodi road. The charging point for the bus is at the Volvo depot, Majestic.

This eco-friendly electric bus is on a free of cost, 3-month trial courtesy of the Chinese company ‘Build Your Dream’ (BYD) brought to India by Utopia Pvt. Ltd.

The vehicle has zero emission, operates on a battery lasting 5 hours and covers a distance of upto 250 Km.
