‘Bengaluru is country’s hub for blue and grey collar jobs’

Bengaluru holds the highest number of vacancies in India for blue and grey collar jobs.Delivery, BPO, customer care, data entry, back office, field sales and driver categories account for 80% of all such jobs, according to a study.

Qjobs, a Quess Corp platform for blue and grey collar recruitment, said Bengaluru had the largest share of job vacancies across these categories, accounting for 23% of openings,followed by Delhi (18%), Hyderabad (15%), Mumbai (11%), and Pune (8%).

** Udupi: 65-year-old Gangadhar swims for 5 hrs in sea with limbs chained

A sexagenarian from Kadekar has created a Golden Book of World Records on Monday, January 24 by swimming 3550 meters for five hours in the sea and that too with his hands and legs chained. He swam for five and a half hours without a break! He dived into the sea from Udupi’s Padukere beach shore at 7.50 AM and reached the destination at 1.20 PM.

The representative from the Golden Book of World Records who watched the feat issued a provisional certificate on the spot soon after Gangadhar reached the shore.

Another astonishing fact about international swimmer Gangadhar is that he became an expert in the waters at a ripe age of 60! Aged 65 years now, he has broken national and international records in the past five years. He has trained more than a thousand people in swimming. Gangadhar is an example that there is no age for achievements.

Gangadhar is the son of Malpe residents Gopal Mendon and Sundari Mendon. He is residing in Kadekar at present. He started swimming in the sea as a hobby in 2006, became an expert in various styles and began participating in state level competitions from 2009.

** Hallikar Breed Ox Sold For A Record Rs. 7.75 Lakh At Srirangapatna

Srirangapatna:

A seven-year-old Hallikar breed ox belonging to Vinod, son of farmer Suresh of Palahalli village, has been sold for a record Rs. 7.75 lakh to one Manju of Tegur village in Chikkamagalur.

The ox, named King Gagan, has taken part in more than 80 cart races and had won many prizes. Vinod used to take King Gagan along with his partner to races across the State and Manju, who was impressed with the name and fame of King Gagan, bought him for a high price. Manju said that he would pair King Gagan with another ox for car races in future.

** Bengaluru-based ed-tech startup launches world’s first ‘neoschool’

Bengaluru-based ed-tech startup StayQrious launched the world’s first ‘neoschool’, an after-school online initiative that aims to teach students things that they would not learn in regular schools.

he initiative hopes to give children access to an international standard of education without having to attend expensive international schools. The aim of the school is to offer students a wide range of unconventional subjects and teaching that they will not get during their regular schooling.

** B.S. Muddappa passes away

The founder-Managing Director of the erstwhile Karnataka State Dairy Development Corporation (now Karnataka Milk Federation) B.S. Muddappa, 98, passed away here on Tuesday.

Sources said that he passed away due to age related illness. Among important positions that he held were General Manager of MSRTC, Vice-Chairman KSRTC, Managing Director Consumer Cooperatives, Director Bangalore Dairy, and several posts in State and at the Centre.

** Kilingar Gopalakrishna Bhat, philanthropist, passes away

He is credited to have got over 260 houses to the shelter-less besides helping hundreds to lead own life

Philanthropist Kilingar Gopalakrishna Bhat, known as Sairam Bhat, a resident of Kilingar in Badiyadka gram panchayat in neighbouring Kasargod district passed away on Saturday. He was 85.

An agriculturist, Bhat was seen as a messiah of the poor having helped in the construction of over 265 houses for the downtrodden in the region without any government support. In his effort to make the youth self-reliant, he also provided hundreds of autorickshaws and sewing machines to young men and women to lead their own life.

** Former High Court judge K.L. Manjunath passes away

Chairman of the Karnataka River and Border Protection Authority and retired Karnataka High Court judge K.L. Manjunath, 68, passed away here late on Saturday.

During his long legal career, Mr. Manjunath served as an advocate and president of Advocates Association before being elevated to the Karnataka High Court. He also served as chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Commission. He was appointed chairman of the River and Border Protection Authority during the JD(S)-Congress coalition regime. With Karnataka being a party to Mahadayi, Krishna, and Cauvery inter-State river disputes and border issues with Maharashtra, Mr. Manjunath had given valuable legal suggestions.

** Raghavendra Maiyya gets award

Sri Kundeshwara Kshetra at Hirgana in Karkala taluk on Sunday felicitated Yakshagana Bhagavatha (singer-director) Halady Raghavendra Maiyya with the Kundeshwara Samman 2022.

Mr. Maiyya has been in the field of Bhagavathike for the last four decades making a mark with his unique style of singing and direction. Having entered the field of Bhagavathike at the age of 15, he was trained by Yakshagana Guru Narnappa Uppur

** Karnataka attracts ₹1.6 lakh crore FDI in FY22

Karnataka has attracted foreign direct investments (FDIs) worth ₹1.6 lakh crore so far in the current fiscal, which was more than 50% of such investments received in the entire country, said Minister for IT/BT and Skill Development C.N. Ashwath Narayan on Sunday.
