The student can get a degree from the University of his/her choice by getting a minimum of 50% credits from the respective university.

This policy seeks to entirely overhaul the system through various reforms: A single regulator to oversee higher education; no more MPhil courses before PhD; fixed fees for public and private institutions; students can choose between three and four-year undergraduate courses; multiple entry and exit points in degree courses.

One day in 2017, Laxmi Rathod was visiting a temple fair where a packet of pens caught her eye. Acting on maternal instinct, she bought the packet for her son Shivaraj, then aged 12. Little did she know that her boy would create magic with the pens that cost her Rs 5 each.

Five years on, Shivaraj has become quite a sensation on social media platforms, especially on YouTube, where he has garnered a viewership of over 53,000 in less than a year. In September 2020, he had posted 106 reels showcasing his artworks on the YouTube channel, Shivaraj the Artist.

** Veteran ISRO scientist Ramabhadran Aravamudan dies at 84

Veteran space scientist Ramabhadran Aravamudan, who was among the first to join the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1962 when it was still named Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), died in Bengaluru late Wednesday night.

He had been ailing for over a year with kidney problems.

Eighty-four-year-old Aravamudan retired from ISRO in 1997 after being a director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (spaceport) in Sriharikota, and the ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC) in Bengaluru. He had closely worked with ‘Missile Man’ Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India. He was known for his expertise in satellite tracking and telemetry.

** 13th-century inscription stone lies neglected on Doddanekundi roadside

While the government is actively working on establishing new museums and restoring heritage sites under Mission 2022, a 13th century stone, with inscriptions on both sides, lies ignored in Doddanekundi. Locals and heritage enthusiasts have been striving for the last eight years to protect the stone, but nothing has happened so far. Agitated over the neglect, they have taken to social media to voice their wrath.

“Belonging to the Hoysala dynasty, the stone has the name Neerakundi inscripted on it, the original name of Doddanekundi. This clearly shows that the area existed even then. The details of the same can also be found in Epigraphia Carnatica, Bengaluru volume,” said Swaminathan Natarajan, archaeology and heritage enthusiast and resident of the area

** Three Belagavi footballers make it to Indian team

It is a proud moment for Belagavi as three budding women football players from the city have made it to the Indian side for the Mini Football Women’s World Cup-2021, which will be held in Ukraine this month.Anjali Hindalgekar, Aditi Jadhav and Priyanka Kangralkar are all degree students studying in different colleges. Apart from them, Vibha and Sanjana from Bengaluru too have made it to the national team.

With this, Karnataka has a lion’s share five players in the 11-member Indian side.
