Aim is to ensure free and faster access to vaccines for underprivileged citizens
Healthcare chain Narayana Health, in association with GiveIndia, launched a free COVID-19 vaccination drive here on Saturday.
Beginning with inoculating 2,000 people in its first phase, it will be expanded to a wider population of migrant labourers, underprivileged and underserved sections of the society across the country, it was announced.

** Add Engg signs MoU with UAE firm
Add Engineering Gmbh, the parent company of ADD Engineering (India) Private Limited, has signed an MoU with the UAE-based defence sector EDGE Group PUSC to share crucial technology to enhance production and improve efficiency of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) in the defence aviation sector.
The agreement, which will be in effect for two years, was signed by Norbert Kreller, Verner Greksa, Alexander Locktev and Girish Linganna for ADD Engg, while Mohammed Al Rasheed and others signed it on behalf of EDGE.EDGE is a private firm based in Abu Dhabi, and operates in investment services, aerospace and defence sector.

** BEML manufacturing medical oxygen units
In a bid to mitigate the oxygen shortage in the country, defence PSU major BEML has started manufacturing 960 LMP medical oxygen units at its KGF complex.
The units have been set up under a transfer of technology agreement with Defence Bio Engineering and Electro Medical Laboratory under the DRDO.
** NIT-K to introduce B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence
The Department of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, has decided to start a new four-year B.Tech. course in Artificial Intelligence from the academic year 2021-22.
Karanam Uma Maheshwar Rao, Director, NIT-K, said in a release on Thursday that this degree would prepare students for industry or further study by offering specialisations in different areas of AI such as data science, human-centred computing, cyber-physical systems, and robotics.
“Its curriculum will focus on the use of inputs such as video, speech, and big data to make decisions or enhance human capabilities.”
** International award for C.N.R. Rao

Bharat Ratna Professor C.N.R. Rao has been selected for the International Eni Award 2020 for research in energy frontiers. This is considered to be the Nobel Prize in energy research.
Professor Rao has been working on hydrogen energy as the only source of energy for the benefit of all mankind. Storage, photochemical and electrochemical production of hydrogen, solar production of hydrogen and non-metallic catalysis were the highlights of the work.
** Manipal Hospitals acquires Vikram Hospital for ₹350 crore
The company is scouting for expansion opportunities in eastern India.
Manipal Hospitals, the second largest hospital chain in India, entered into a definitive agreement with private equity firm Multiples to acquire 100% stake in Bengaluru-based multi-specialty hospital Vikram Hospital for a consideration of ₹350 crore.
In April this year, Manipal Hospitals had acquired Columbia Asia Hospitals for ₹2,100 crore.
