** Bengaluru celebrates 50th National Safety Day
On the occasion of the 50th National Safety Day, the department of factories, boilers, industrial safety and health works organised a seminar and public function on Thursday at Rashtrakavi Kuvempu BEL Kalakshetra in Jalahalli.
** Bengaluru startup tracks vaccines real-time for Andhra
Bengaluru-based startup Intugine Technologies is partnering with the Andhra Pradesh government to track vaccine shipments to the state in real-time to ensure doses are maintained at ideal temperature.
Cofounder Ayush Agarwal said the company uses GPS to track the location of vehicles transporting the vaccine.
He said that four centres in India – Mumbai, Karnal, Chennai and Kolkata – supply vaccines to state headquarters from which it is taken to regional storage sites, then to district sites, and lastly, vaccination sites.
** Former V-C of UAS passes away
Former Vice-Chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad, M. Mahadevappa, 84, passed away at his residence in Mysuru early on Saturday.
Prof. Mahadevappa, a Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardee, who had developed improved rice varieties for cultivation in the State, leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter.
** Kannada poet Lakshminarayana Bhatta passes away
Born in 1936 in Shivamogga district, he was a prolific writer, publishing several collections of poems besides critical works and translations.

Indicating deep roots of Jainism, historians have discovered two more Nisadis (memorial stones) dating back to the 12th century at Hiregutti village in Kumta of Uttara Kannada district.
