** 890 to receive degrees at UAS-D convocation tomorrow

A total of 890 candidates will receive various graduate and postgraduate degrees during the 33rd annual convocation of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad (UAS-D) to be held at the Farmers’ Knowledge Hub on the university campus on Saturday .

Regarding the research and development activities at the university, Prof. Chetti said that UAS-D had developed the UAS-466 variety in wheat, VPMV-9 in pearl millet, CSV-37 in kharif sorghum, and others.

He said that 32 varieties of different crops had been promoted for commercialisation through “Agri Innovative” platforms and the university had taken up several initiatives to extend the benefits of the research to the farmers through extension programmes.

** In a first, women reserve constables promoted after three years of service

For the first time in the history of the Karnataka State Police, 11 women constables were promoted to head constables after completing three years of service. As many as 27 women were promoted after four years, while 34 were promoted after five years of service.

** ‘Make In India’ lion installation inaugurated

At the inauguration of the ‘Make in India’ lion installation at Windsor Square on Saturday, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa promised to present a ‘very good budget’ on March 8.

The statue, which weighs over 1,000 kg, is made from fibre-reinforced plastic.

The Chief Minister described the installation, which can rotate, as ‘significant’ and ‘meaningful.’
