** Dubai: Daiji Rang Mandir honours ‘Tulunada Manikya’ Aravind Bolar

Daiji Rang Mandir, a wing of Daiji Dubai Konkani Writers (DDKW) in the Emirates and a forum of Konkani stage artistes around UAE organized an event to honour the visiting versatile actor of Yakshaghana, drama, movies and TV actor ‘Tulunadu Manikya’ Aravind Bolar on November 10 at Winny’s restaurant at Karama here.

It is a tradition of Daiji Rang Mandir to identify talent, achievement and honour Konkani and Tulu artistes who visit the Emirates from any part of the world. Nearly two-and-half hours was spent with the Tulu ace artiste, worldwide acclaimed Private Challenge fame, Aravind Bolar, which turned into a memorable occasion indeed. In the course of the function, he shared his rich experience with the audience, which comprised mostly the artistes and well-wishers of Aravind Bolar.

Ravichandran Venkataraman was the founder of Diya Systems and GlowTouch Technologies

Ravichandran Venkataraman, the founder of Glowtouch Techonology and Diya Systems, passed away on November 12. He was 74.

He was in his daughter’s house in Louisville, Kenctucky, USA, following brain surgery two years ago. He leaves behind his wife Indira, daughter Vidya Ravichandran and son Hari.

He is a recipient of Bharatiya Udyog Ratan Award, Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award, MMA-KVK Outstanding Manager Award, and Spandana Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

** Kundapur: Rajyotsava awardee Vakwadi Praveen Kumar Shetty felicitated

 NRI Indian entrepreneur, Vakwadi Praveen Kumar Shetty, who is from Kundapur taluk, and who has been selected for Karnataka Rajyotsava Award for the year 2021, arrived in the district on Wednesday November 3.

On his arrival at Lord Vinayaka temple, Anegudde, accompanied by wife Roopali Shetty, he was offered welcome on behalf of the temple management. The priests performed puja. Senior trustee of the temple, K Sooryanarayana Upadhyaya, and priest Murari Upadhyaya, honoured the dignitary on behalf of the temple.

** IMF Chief Economist Gita Gopinath to leave job and return to Harvard University

She had joined the IMF as the Chief Economist in January 2019

IMF’s Chief Economist Gita Gopinath will leave her job in January next year and return to the prestigious Harvard University, according to the global financial institution.

The 49-year-old prominent Indian-American economist had joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the Chief Economist in January 2019.

She was the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University when she joined the Washington-based global lender.

Mysuru-born Gopinath is the first-ever woman Chief Economist of the IMF.

** Five scientists, engineers get IISc’s Distinguished Alumnus Award

This year’s awardees are Dr Anuradha M Annaswamy, a senior research scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Professor Sajal K Das of Missouri University of Science and Technology, Professor T Pradeep of IIT Madras, Professor C S Raghavendra of the University of Southern California and Dr Ritu Shrivastava, a former vice president of Technology Development at SanDisk Corporation.

** Bengaluru-based lawyer is chairman of NYC Bar’s rights panel

Bengaluru-based lawyer Ramya Jawahar Kudekallu has been appointed as the chairperson of the New York City Bar’s International Human Rights Committee.

Ramya’s granduncle was Attorney General of India, while her father Jawahar Kudekallu and her uncle are also advocates

** Riyadh: Indian Social Forum Karnataka state committee elects new leadership

Indian Social Forum Riyadh, Karnataka state committee held its committee election for term 2021-2024 on October 1 here.

The committee elected Abdul Majid Punjalkatte as president, Sirajuddin Sajipa as general secretary, Umar Farooq Somawarpete as vice president, Jawad Basrur and Asghar Aboobakar Chakmaki as secretaries. Nizam Bajpe, Mihaf Sulthan, Nazeer Handel and Faisal Ammembala were elected as state committee members.

** Mysuru Lad Emerges Canadian National Champion – 2021

Vancouver:

Mysuru-boy Mustafa M. Raja, who won the Provincial Championships in British Columbia last month and was selected for the Nationals to be held in Montreal, Quebec, did well and emerged National Doubles Champion. Mustafa also came third in Singles.

The 14-year-old played consistent tennis all week at the 14-and-under Nationals held at the Carrefour Tennis Centre from Sept. 20 to 26.  Tournament was held outdoors on clay courts.

Mustafa was awarded a trophy for the National Doubles Champion, trophy for the third place in Singles and a silver medal for the provincial standings. With this performance, Mustafa will break into top 5 Singles rankings in Canada. Mustafa trains at the Tennis Centre in Vancouver and goes to Sullivan Heights Secondary School.

Mustafa, son of Murtuza Raja and Farida Raja, earlier train at the Nagaraj Tennis Centre in Mysuru for seven years and attended Excel Public School in Mysuru.
