** Professor Sharada Srinivasan gets Woman Engineer of the Year award

Padma Shri awardee Professor Sharada Srinivasan has added yet another accolade to her expansive list of accomplishments by being one of three women to be chosen for the Indian National Academy of Engineering’s Woman Engineer of the Year award in 2021.

The title is awarded by the academy to women who have made breakthrough contributions to the fields of technology and engineering in India. She is a professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru.

** Chikkaballapur: Litterateur Rangareddy Kodirampura passes away

Renowned litterateur Rangareddy Kodirampura died at his residence in the city on the morning of Sunday, October 24.

Rangareddy is survived by his wife, two sons, and scores of admirers.

Rangareddy was the president of the fifth Kannada Sahitya Sammelana that was held at Chikkaballapur in 2015. He also served in Yakshagana Academy, Kannada development authority and Janapada Academy.

** IMF Chief Economist Gita Gopinath to leave job and return to Harvard University

She had joined the IMF as the Chief Economist in January 2019

IMF’s Chief Economist Gita Gopinath will leave her job in January next year and return to the prestigious Harvard University, according to the global financial institution.

The 49-year-old prominent Indian-American economist had joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the Chief Economist in January 2019.

She was the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University when she joined the Washington-based global lender.

Mysuru-born Gopinath is the first-ever woman Chief Economist of the IMF.

** Dr. AVN’s ‘Itihasa Samskruti’ Book Released

Maintaining that scriptures, epics and ancient coins (numismatics) are also important tools in documenting natural history, noted writer and former Kuvempu Bhasha Bharathi Chairman Dr. Pradhan Gurudatta observed that books on History must not contain wrong facts and must be published without any errors.

He was speaking after releasing renowned Historian and author Dr. A.V. Narasimhamurthy’s (AVN) work ‘Itihasa Samskruti’ at a programme jointly organised by Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota, Aniketana Seva Trust and Vachaspathi Prakashana at Kannada Sahitya Bhavan in Vijayanagar 1st Stage here on Sunday.

** Five scientists, engineers get IISc’s Distinguished Alumnus Award

This year’s awardees are Dr Anuradha M Annaswamy, a senior research scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Professor Sajal K Das of Missouri University of Science and Technology, Professor T Pradeep of IIT Madras, Professor C S Raghavendra of the University of Southern California and Dr Ritu Shrivastava, a former vice president of Technology Development at SanDisk Corporation.

** Mangaluru: Dr Kiran Kumar elected president of Indian Psychiatry Society Karnataka chapter

 Dr P K Kiran Kumar, professor and former head of the department of psychiatry, A J Institute of Medical Sciences here, has been elected president of Indian Psychiatry Society Karnataka chapter for the year 2021-22.

The election was held during KANCIPS-21, the annual conference of IPS-KC at Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru.

** Bengaluru-based lawyer is chairman of NYC Bar’s rights panel

Bengaluru-based lawyer Ramya Jawahar Kudekallu has been appointed as the chairperson of the New York City Bar’s International Human Rights Committee.

Ramya’s granduncle was Attorney General of India, while her father Jawahar Kudekallu and her uncle are also advocates

** Nod to appoint four lawyers as Karnataka HC judges

The Supreme Court Collegium has approved a proposal for the elevation of four advocates as judges of the Karnataka High Court.  

The names of advocates proposed are AR Hegde, CM Poonacha, S Rachaiah and KS Hemalekha. The Collegium has resolved to approve the proposal at a meeting on October 6.
