** Niranjana Vanalli’s book on Tajikistan to be released today

Tashakur Tajikistan’, a non-fiction work by Niranjana Vanalli, Vice-Chancellor of Bengaluru North University, will be released in the city on Friday.

A well-known columnist, writer and academician who held various positions in the University of Mysore before his current assignment, Prof.Niranjana, had served as the Director of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, under Embassy of India in Tajikistan during 2018-19. He has penned his experience in this work which presents a positive picture of this country.

The book, which is introducing this country for the first time in Kannada language, is unique in many respects and ‘Tashakur’ means thank you in Tajik language, according to Prof. Niranjana.

** Award To Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy

Bengaluru-based Ajithkumar Smaraka Samskrithika Vedike, in memory of Ajithkumar, presented the National Award “Ajithsree Santana-2021” to Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy for her outstanding contribution to the field of Bharathanatya at a function held at Kondajji Basappa Auditorium, Bharat Scouts and Guides premises, Bengaluru, on Dec.11

** Kundapur: Veteran journalist U S Shenoy bags Vaddarse Raghuram Shetty Award

Brahmavar Taluk Patrakartara Sangha has selected senior journalist, editor of Kundaprabha weekly newspaper, U S Shenoy for the prestigious Vaddarse Raghuram Shetty Award this time.

henoy has served the sector of journalism for the last 40 years. He started ‘Kundaprabha’ first weekly newspaper of Kundapur taluk in 1991 and has continued it for the last three decades. He trained and molded more than 25 people as journalists. He has published books titled ‘101 gramagalu’, ‘Punyanadi panchagangavali’, ‘computer kaliyiri’, ‘Aids mahamari’ and other books. He has served as journalist in Mangaluru’s Navabharath, Indian Express, Mungaru and Hosa Digantha newspapers. He has been running Konkani monthly magazine as its editor.

** BBMP limits expand by 4 sq km as govt adds five villages

With the additions, BBMP limits that sprawl over 712 sq km will now stretch over 716 sq km.

The area under the BBMP’s jurisdiction has now increased by four square kilometres with the addition of five villages in northern and southern Bengaluru. 

** Dr Ronald Colaco conferred ‘Koti-Chennaya Award’ at Moodbidri Kambala

Well-known NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr Ronald Colaco was honoured with the ‘Koti-Chennaya Award’ during the 19th Koti-Chennaya Jodukare Kambala held on Saturday December 11 and Sunday December 12 near here.

Veteran RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, minister for urban development Byrathi Basavaraj, MP and president of Karnataka BJP Nalin Kumar Kateel, minister for fisheries S Angara, minister for social welfare Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA and honorary president of Moodbidri Kambala committee Umanath Kotian, and other dignitaries honoured Dr Colaco with the Koti-Chennaya Award, along with a memento, shawl and fruit basket.

Understanding the needs of the society, he spent crores to build temples, churches, buildings for lawyers and police personnel. He did not limit his service to only some particular sections of the society. He tried to understand the immediate necessities of people from all sections in his surroundings. He is one of the great supporters of Moodbidri Kambala. We have named the main stage of this Kambala after his father Fabian Colaco. ** Writer Eshwar Mantur dead

Eshwar Mantur, writer, public speaker and founder of the Basava Jnyana Gurukul orphanage, died in Honnur-Madhurkhandi village of Bagalkot district on Thursday.

Apart from traditional education, the institution offered training in computer usage and music. He also organised Sharana Sanskruti Utsav in the ashram ever year. He wrote several books on Basava philosophy and began touring the State giving lectures on the 12th Century Vachana movement. He released several cassettes and CDs that contained deliberations on various Sharanas.

** Udupi: MAHE president Dr Ranjan R Pai named in EdelGive Hurun India Youngest Philanthropists list

Dr Ranjan R Pai, chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG) and President of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) was named as one of the youngest philanthropists in the 8th annual EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021.

The list highlights the country’s most generous individuals who have contributed to the development of the nation through their philanthropic efforts. The report was prepared by Edelgive Foundation in partnership with Hurun India.

** Chopper crash at Coonoor: Karkala loses its valiant son-in-law

 Karkala has lost its son-in-law in the helicopter crash which happened in Coonoor on Wednesday December 8.

Lt Col Harjinder Singh happened to be the son-in-law of Karkala origin Late Felix Menezes and Mary Menezes. Harjinder Singh had married Lt Agnes Prafulla Menezes, daughter of the late Felix and Mary Menezes of Salmara here in Karkala.

Agnes Prafulla Menezes had also served in the Indian Army for many years. Both of them fell in love with each other and got married. They had visited the family’s native house in Salmara a few times, said the relatives of the Menezes family.
