** Udupi: UAE businessman B M Zaffer Thonse gets Indian Achievers Award-2021

B M Zaffer Thonse Chairman Thonse Health Centre (Nature cure and Ayurveda hospital) has been selected for the prestigious Indian Achievers Award-2021 by the Indian Achievers’ Forum for his outstanding professional achievements and contributions in national building.

Zaffer is a known businessman from UAE and the award is given for recognizing his excellence in business, health sector and social activities.

** Athletic Championship: Two meet records set on Day 2

Two new meet records were created on the second day of the 81st All India Inter-University Athletic Championship 2022 being organised at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri on Wednesday. 

Akshdeep Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala, created a new record in the 20 km race walk clocking 1:26:09.08 sec. breaking the previous record (1:26:39.78) of Juned K T of Mangalore University, set in 2020.

In the same event, Paramjeet Singh and Hardeep of Mangalore University bettered the record clocking 1:26:39.15 and 1:27:13.89 respectively.

** Historical informative documentary on St Francis Xavier’s death, its aftermath set to release soon

Tropical Creativity, a YouTube channel owned by Armando Roque Fernandes, created in Goa, basically to take interesting contents from local to global, has produced a historical informative documentary ‘O Padre Santo’ which is based on the central character St Francis Xavier who is one of the most famous saint in the world, whose sacred relics are existing in Goa since the last 468 years.

The powerful content in the documentary produced under ‘Noah Films’ by Tropical Creativity, is made at present in 13 languages mainly Konkani, English, Kannada, Malayalam, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati. The idea is to take local content on a global stage in languages known across the world. With the success of this concept, ‘Noah Films’ will bring more powerful contents in the form of documentaries, entertainment & education in multiple languages. ** Lokayukta website launched

The new website of Karnataka Lokayukta was launched on Thursday.

According to an official release, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who inaugurated the website at the Lokayukta headquarters in the city, said the Lokayukta website has been upgraded to provide transparency in the functioning of the organisation and provide timely information to complainants, defendants, and the public.

** Kuvempu Birth Anniversary Celebrated As Vishwamanava Day

Marking the birth anniversary of Poet Laureate Kuvempu, Vishwamanava Day was celebrated by various organisations at different venues across the city this morning.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bagadi Gautham inaugurated the official celebration at a programme jointly organised by the District Administration in association with Kannada & Culture Department and Kuvempu Jayantyotsava Samiti at Kalamandira on Hunsur Road. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gautham said that the credit for taking Kannada to national and international levels should go to Kuvempu.

** Canada: Maxim D’Mello, Vijay Dante elected to lead MAC in its 20th year

Maxim D’Mello, one of the highly acclaimed Mangalurean leaders in Canada and outside India, has been unanimously elected as the president of ‘The Mangalorean Association of Canada’ (MAC) for the fourth term during its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) held on November 21 at Petrescue Hall, Carmen Corbasson Community Centre, Mississauga, Canada.

He was actively involved with Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) since its inception and served as a President before immigrating to Canada in 2002. From then on, he is part of the Mangalorean Association of Canada and serves the community. In 2006 he got elected as its president for the first time.

In addition MAC is fortunate to get yet another dynamic leader Everest Vijay Dante popularly known as Vijay Dante to its fold as the vice-president. Vijay, a philanthropist is a well-focussed, dedicated and a family-oriented business professional. He is the proud son of the late ‘Sridanti’ (Francis Dante from Udupi, Karnataka, India), a renowned writer, poet and a religious leader who is also one of the founders of Catholic Sabha, Mangaluru.

** Thathaiah Award-2021 For Renowned Indologist Dr. A.V. Narasimhamurthy

The Anathalaya in Mysuru is celebrating the 177th birth anniversary of its Founder, Vrudhapitamaha, Daya Sagara, M. Venkatakrishnaiah. The Anathalaya, serving the poor students, has been in existence since 1896.

As part of Founder’s Day celebration, the institute confers ‘Thathaiah Award’ (Vrudhapitamaha, Daya Sagara, M. Venkatakrishnaiah Award) every year and this carries a purse of Rs. 25,000, a plaque and a citation. Persons who have achieved greater heights in the field of education, journalism, social reforms and service to society are selected for this award.
