** IISc finds spot in QS top 200 rankings

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) is the topmost Indian institute as per the QS University Rankings out on Thursday. It stands at rank 172 globally, 20 places lower than its 2020 ranking.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru is ranked second in the country with a global ranking of 185, one place lower than last year’s rank. Almost all of the Indian institutes on the top 500 list have dropped down a few places from the previous year.

Carmel College Modankap, here, won ‘One District One Green Champion’ Award by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Union Ministry of Education, under Swachhta Action Plan 2020-21. Many universities, colleges all over India participated in Swachhta Action Plan.

In Dakshina Kannada District, Carmel College Modankap, Bantwal was one of the colleges to win ‘One District One Green Champion’ Award.

“The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics,” said the mathematician Paul Halmos. Mahesha M of Prajna Mathematics at Hebbal in Bengaluru lets his students do this, but with his out-of-the-box methodologies.

** Japan to confer Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays decoration to Bengaluru teacher

Bengaluru teacher Shyamala Ganesh, the former director of the Japanese Language School, will be conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays.

In a press release, Consulate-General of Japan, Bengaluru highlighted Ms. Ganesh’s contribution to the spread of the Japanese language and culture in Karnataka.

** Class 10 students from Bengaluru raise Rs 2 lakh to buy oximeters for underprivileged

Two Class 10 students of Greenwood High International School Sneha Raghavan and Shloka Ashok raised over Rs 2 lakh in 24 hours to donate 300 pulse oximeters to underprivileged sections.
They will donate the oximeters to a Bengaluru-based NGO, Sampark, that works with vulnerable groups. The oximeters will be distributed to slum-dwellers in Bengaluru and rural women in Koppal in North Karnataka.

Saturday – November 22nd, 2014. Governor and Chancellor of Universities – Vajubhai Vala conferred Honorary Doctorates at KSLU’s First Convocation held at D Veerendra Heggade Kalakshetra at Suttur near Dharwad

The convocation address was delivered by former Attorney General of India and Rajya Sabha member K. Parasaran

Honorary Doctorates were awarded to former Chief Justices of India – Justice S Rajendra Babu and Professor Emeritus Prof. G.V. Ajjappa. Former Chief Justice of India – Justice M. Venkatachalaiah was also awarded Honorary Doctorate in absentia

Degrees were awarded to the First batch of the 5-year B.A, LLB and BBA, LLB and Honours courses. Gold medals were presented to the first rank holders of the LLM courses and PG Diplomas.

Also present at the event were Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra, KSLU Vice-Chancellor T.R. Subramanya, Registrar T.V. Manjunatha and Registrar (Evaluation) B.S.Reddy and others.
