** Mangaluru: Shree Devi Institute Kenjar’s Prapooj Ichangi, team bag ‘The Best Short Film’ award

Prapooj Ichangi and his team, students who belong to the MCA department of Shree Devi Institute of Technology, Kenjar, a prestigious college in Mangaluru won ‘The Best Short Film’ award as per results announced on June 14 at the Mysuru International Water Film Festival-2021 hosted by the Filmaholic Film Foundation for their short film ‘Case No 1/2’.

** President’s medal for alumnus of Rashtriya Military School, Bengaluru

Cadet Deepak Singh (now Lieutenant), the parade commander at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), has been awarded the President’s gold medal for topping the order of merit.

An alumnus of the Rashtriya Military School, Bengaluru (RMS-B), Deepak Singh, was among the six cadets who graduated from the institution in 2017 and joined the National Defence Academy. The other five are Aman Singh, Malay Chandan, Rohit Kumar, Ujjwal Sarkar, and Avinash Chaubey.

** Fellowship programme for youth with disabilities

As part of its silver jubilee, the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), in collaboration with Azim Premji Foundation, has launched a three-year fellowship programme for youth with disabilities.

The NCPEDP-Javed Abidi Fellowship on Disability is open to applicants looking to build a career in the development sector, particularly disability rights and inclusion, stated a press release. The launch of the fellowship also marks the birth anniversary of NCPEDP’s former director the late Javed Abidi.

** Students can now access Sweden’s COMSOL simulator at IISc

Students pursuing scientific discipline and researchers across the country can now have access to Sweden’s COMSOL – a multi-physics software suite – at no cost. This became possible after the I-STEM, an initiative of the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Union government, entered into a collaborative arrangement with the COMSOL group. I-STEM is located in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Students only have to register themselves with I-STEM, which is an online repository of information pertaining to science research equipment available in the country, and use the variety of computer simulations that the suite offers.

** M.I. Savadatti dead

Rajyotsava awardee and former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University M.I. Savadatti (89) breathed his last in Dharwad on Wednesday.

Recipient of several awards including Sir M. Visvesvaraya Lifetime Achievement award, Prof. Savadatti served as Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University for two terms.

** Founder-Dean Of CAVA Prof. V.M. Sholapurkar No More

Mysuru

Prof. Sholapurkar was conferred the Rajyotsava Award in 2008 for his contribution to the field of fine art.

Born in Bijapur, he studied Fine Art at Sir J.J. School of Art, Bombay and then taught there for decades. As a much beloved art educationist, he inspired and moulded hundreds of students over the years. His teaching years at JJ brought him national awards for excellence in design for the annual magazines in 1970 -73 -75 -78. He was also a regular art critic for publications like The Times of India, Daily and Free Press Journal.

Frizzell D’Souza straddles the worlds of architecture and music. She has been studying the former for the last four years and practising the latter since she was in third grade. She finds a similarity between the two. “It is the process,” she says, “When we work on a design in architecture, we start with a concept. We do a lot of redos and keep going back and forth with it until we get it right. That is a parallel I find in music.”
