** IIMB students to host start-up contest

Aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups will be able to compete for additional funding and expertise in a contest that will be hosted by the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) students of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB).

Called ‘‘Bzzwings’, it is one of largest competitions in the country, IIMB said in a press release. It will be held in July and August 2021.

** Krishna Joshi passes away

A teacher, journalist and Kannada activist, Krishna Joshi, who served Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Dharwad, for long in different capacities, passed away at a private hospital in Goa on Tuesday night. He was 76.

Krishna Joshi served the sangha as treasurer for two terms and was executive committee member for long. He participated in various Kannada agitations and actively coordinated various literary and cultural programmes. He has to his credit a unique record of having written nearly 80,000 letters on different issues.

** Karnataka’s first mining school to come up in Ballari, says Minister

The State’s first, and the country’s second, ‘school of mining’ will come up in Ballari to offer training in management of mines (for owners) and technical skills (for workers).

Announcing the new school at Tumakuru on Monday, Mines Minister Murugesh Nirani said the detailed project report was already ready and the school would come up on 50 acres in Ballari. “Shortly, we will seek Cabinet approval for the new school, which will provide international level training to both owners and workers of mines,” he said, adding that the school would help prevent unscientific mining practices.

** VTU signs MoU with Bengaluru’s AFTC

The Air Force Technical College (AFTC), Bengaluru, has entered into an agreement with Belagavi-based VTU to award postgraduate degrees in Aeronautical Engineering to Indian Air force officers.

Air Commodore Biji Philip, Commandant of AFTC, and A.S. Deshpande, Registrar, VTU, signed a MoU in Belagavi on Friday.

The two institutions will jointly offer MTech programme in Aeronautical Engineering. The degree will be awarded with six different specialisations and will follow all AICTE and VTU norms.

The epigraphist from Birur town in Chikkamagaluru district took a fancy to the knowledge hidden in stones, and is one among a small number of people who can understand ‘Modi lipi’, a cursive script used to write several languages, including Kannada.

** Bengaluru students make it to screens at New York’s Times Square

All interns were able to savour their moment of fame as part of a marketing initiative by Morgan Stanley called ‘India Interns Lights on Broadway’.

Tejaswini was among 277 college students from India who landed an internship with financial services giant Morgan Stanley, whose individual photos were beamed on a screen at the firm’s headquarters, which it says is very visible to Wall Street.

** 3D, laser mapping of 125 monuments in 8 districts completed

The 3D and laser mapping of 125 monuments spread over 8 districts in south Karnataka region under the jurisdiction of the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Karnataka, have been completed.

The exercise was taken by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) under the Karnataka Digital Heritage project. This entails 3D mapping of 844 protected monuments across Karnataka coming under the State Department of Archaeology.

While the report pertaining to105 monuments spread over 9 districts coming under Bengaluru division was submitted last year, the report on 125 monuments under Mysuru division was submitted recently.
