** Udupi: Carmel school honours Divya Kumari teacher for dedication, selfless service

The member of the faculty of Carmel English school, Divya Kumari was recognized and honoured by the ‘Ganapati Vyavasaya Sangha’, for her dedication and selfless service. As a teacher, she uses her God-given talents to bring out the best from the students entrusted to her care.

Divya has made herself and the school proud with her generosity.

The management, staff members, students and the PTA members honoured Divya and rejoiced with her. Sr Niveditha AC, the joint secretary, Sr Silvian AC, headmistress and Ronnie D’Souza, social worker, PTA vice president Celine Crasta and exicutive members were present for the programme.

** Now, a handbook for Covid-19 care

Treatment protocol for Covid-19 patients was constantly evolving through the pandemic, Dr CN Manjunath, director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, said at the release of a ‘Handbook on Complete Covid-19 Care’ recently. 

“This book will be a ready reckoner for clinicians, virologists, immunologists, vaccinologists and postgraduates. The WHO guidelines may not be relevant and we need Indian data as we have our  own phenotype and environment,” Dr Manjunath said, adding that the book must be made available in all critical care units.  In all, 58 doctors of various specialities and health officials, including former Health Commissioner Dr Thrilok Chandra, were present at the release.

It is now an internationally acclaimed eye hospital,” Dr Sujatha said.   Infrastructure was upgraded in 1961 with 200 beds, and PG courses were also started here in 1962.

 Minto Ophthalmic Institute aka Minto Hospital, which had its beginnings in a tiny clinic in Chickpet in Bengaluru, and then shifted to a small lodge in Lalbagh, is celebrating its 125th anniversary. 

Dr Sujatha Rathod, hospital director, traced the history of Minto. “On November 9, 1886, the hospital started as a dispensary called ‘Bangalore Eye Hospital’ in a small building in Chickpet. In 1903, the foundation stone for the administrative and in-patient block was laid by Sree Krishnaraja Wadiyar Bahadur and was expanded in 1917 to a 100-bed hospital.
