** Tennis: Wins U-14 And U-16 Titles

C.N. Varunya, a student of St. Joseph’s Central School, Vijayanagar, has won the Girls U-14 and U-16 State-level Mysore Junior Tennis Tournament organised by Topserve Tennis Academy at Mysore Tennis Club on Dec. 26.

Daughter of  Rotarian Naveen Chand and Rashmitha, Varunya  is trained by Raghuveer, Ace Tennis Coach.

In both U-14 and U-16 finals, Varunya beat Arzan Khorakiwala 7-2 and 5-1 respectively to clinch titles.

A folklore museum set-up by students is a treasure trove educating the current generation of the glorious past

A museum is where a piece of the past is preserved, helping the present and future generations to wonder and learn. Making an effort to showcase the forgotten lifestyle of people of Malnad, students of Sahyadri Arts College in Shivamogga have set up a folklore museum by collecting scores of artefacts and everyday items from yore. 

Guided by Dr Mohan Chandragutti, assistant professor of Kannada at the college, these students, who are part of the National Service Scheme (NSS), have shaped the museum by collecting items that were used for cooking, farming and other day-to-day activities from three villages of Shivamogga district. 

** Bike expedition to Delhi seeking recognition for Tulu flagged off

Vikith Manjunath and Sharan Shetty’s motorbike expedition to New Delhi in order to create awareness about Tuluva culture, script and justify the need to include Tulu language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, was flagged-off by Mangaluru Commissioner of Police N Shashi Kumar at police parade ground on Friday.

** Yaduveer Wadiyar launches Kalisu’s 50th library in Mysuru

Kalisu Foundation, an NGO working for improving reading habits among the children of government schools through building libraries, has built its 50th library at the government high school in Udbur village near Mysuru.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, scion of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family, who is also the brand ambassador for Kalisu Foundation, inaugurated the library on Thursday.

Till date, Kalisu has touched the lives of more than 12,000 students studying in government schools in Mysuru, Bengaluru, Kushalnagar and Mandya. The 50th library has more than 3,000 books in different categories and has artwork of all the important places and culture of Karnataka.

** Medal-Winners In Muaythai National Championship

Nine Muaythai fighters (7 male and 2 female) of the Smite Academy of Martial Arts participated in the 22nd MTI Muaythai National Championship under the aegis of Mysore Muaythai Trust (MDMT) and Mysore Combat Sports Association (MCSA).

The event was held at Sheen Sports Alliance, Bengaluru, between Dec. 16 and 19.

The team bagged 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. 200 athletes from various States and UT participated in the event that was hosted by Muaythai Association of Karnataka (MAK) and sanctioned by MTI.

** Athletic Championship: Two meet records set on Day 2

Two new meet records were created on the second day of the 81st All India Inter-University Athletic Championship 2022 being organised at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri on Wednesday. 

Akshdeep Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala, created a new record in the 20 km race walk clocking 1:26:09.08 sec. breaking the previous record (1:26:39.78) of Juned K T of Mangalore University, set in 2020.

In the same event, Paramjeet Singh and Hardeep of Mangalore University bettered the record clocking 1:26:39.15 and 1:27:13.89 respectively.

** Learn about 3D audio through a workshop with sound artists Felix Deufel and Nikhil Nagaraj

The workshop would help students, sound artists, producers and other practitioners to work with 3D audio

Sound artists Felix Deufel and Nikhil Nagaraj are conducting a one-day workshop on 3D audio at TheISRO’s (Indian Sonic Research Organisation) 3D SoundLab Bengaluru on January 5.

Though little-known in India, 3D audio is among the most exciting fields of study in audio technology, says Nikhil. Apart from its commercial uses in film, gaming and more, he reckons, it has limitless possibilities in “the experimental space”. For instance, his current projects include developing technical solutions for streaming immersive audio and recording high quality audio in ecologically sensitive areas for research and preservation.

** Kanachur V.G. Medical College Sullia lifts Medi Quiz 2021 Trophy

  K.V.G. Medical College Sullia duo team comprising of  Akshitha Anand and Ankitha Anand emerged as winners and clinched the glittering Medi Quiz – 2021 Trophy.  The competition witnessed a very exciting close finish as they faced stiff competition from the rival team Kanachur Institute of  Medical Sciences comprising of  Nusaiba Farheen and Nithya G.S.  who had to settle for Second Place.

** 2K engineering students to create awareness about govt schemes in Karnataka

As many as 2,000 engineering students are set to launch a door-to-door campaign in the New Year as part of the ‘Sakala Mitra’ pilot programme of the Karnataka government.

Depending on the outcome of the pilot programme, the Sakala Mission Department plans to collaborate with other schools and colleges around Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka to take part in the programme.

The engineering students, taking up this initiative as part of the Acharya Institute of Technology, will visit houses in the New Year to create awareness about the various schemes and services offered by the state government under the Sakala Mitra Programme.

The students have been trained by the department as well as Upkriti, an NGO that works mainly on tribal welfare projects.
