** KDEM, SJCE-STEP sign MoU to boost start-ups, innovation

Aim is to develop a global entrepreneurship centre to harbour more than 100 start-ups for innovation and enterprise development

The Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), in its effort to boost the start-up ecosystem and collaborative innovation, on Saturday entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering-Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (SJCE-STEP) here. The MoU aims to build a robust start-up ecosystem while underlining the need for skill development, employment generation, and overall development in the State. 

Proxelera, the city’s first chip design company which has established a VLSI Design Centre at SJCE-STEP, was inaugurated in the presence of Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Mutt, JSS Mahavidyapeeta Executive Secretary C.G. Betsurmath, B. Suresh, Director, JSS TED, JSS Mahavidyapeeta, and Ramachandra B., General Manager, Global Head, Autonomous Driving and Robotics, Wipro. On the occasion, the SJCE-STEP also unveiled new programmes for innovators, entrepreneurs and start-ups.

** ‘Skill on Wheels’ ready to reach rural Karnataka

Youths, aged 18 years and above with a grade 8 pass certificate, can avail the benefit of the programme.

The department of skill development, employability and entrepreneurship is launching a unique programme called ‘Skill on Wheels’ (Kaushalya Ratha). It will reach various villages across the state and train youngsters on board.

** Student develops mini-oxygen plant in just eight months, all by himself

A 19-year-old engineering student has single-handedly invented a prototype of a mini-oxygen plant that produces up to 94.5 per cent pure oxygen and can be used in homes, hospitals as well as industries.

Called OxiPlant, the device works on the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process.

It took Tejas P Karanji, a first-year student of electronics and communication engineering at PES University, all of eight months to conceptualise, design, fabricate and develop the product.

** Former MLA And Educationist H.D. Chowdaiah Passes Away

Mandya:

Former MLA and long term Chairman of People’s Education Society (PES) H.D. Chowdaiah (94), died of age-related ailments at his residence in Holalu village on the outskirts of Mandya on Tuesday night.

Chowdaiah leaves behind sons H.C. Mohan Kumar and H.C. Hariprasad and daughters H.C. Bhagya, H.C. Latha and Dr.  H.C. Savitha. His wife Doddalingamma had pre-deceased him three years ago.

** Karnataka gets first NAAC A+ grade institute

In its two years of functioning DSATM has won multiple awards and grades by national, industry and government bodies.

 The Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management (DSATM) became the first institute in the state to be awarded an A+ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), the institution comes under the umbrella of Dayananda Sagar Institutions.

** Mindtree co-founders donate Rs 425 crore to IISc to help build an 800-bed multi-specialty hospital

This is the single largest private donation IISc has received to build the postgraduate medical school and multi-specialty hospital, officials of the Institute said.

Historian and orator Laxmish Sonda of Mangaluru has been chosen for the annual Ravi Datar Award instituted by Natyanjali Nritya Kendra. The award will be presented on February 15.

President of Natyanjali Nritya Kendra Pradeep Bhat told presspersons in Hubballi on Saturday that Mr. Sonda had contributed a great deal to historical research and had been organising annual history conferences. He had also penned various historical plays, he said.

Mr. Bhat said the kendra would be honouring two young artists, Nirupama Kulkarni and Apurva Patil, with ‘Ravi Datar Puraskar’ on the same occasion. The award carries a purse of ₹3,000 and a citation. AIR announcer Shashidhar Narenra, director of Dharwad Rangayana Ramesh S. Paravinaikar and others would be guests.

Illustrator Shubhashree Sangameswaran shows how visual journaling helps reflect on the year gone by and set a personal planner for this year

Intimidated by what 2022 may hold? Bengaluru-based illustrator and visual artist Shubhashree Sangameswaran is conducting a Visual Journaling workshop titled ‘Looking forward, Looking back.’ Also an author of books ( Everyday Eco-warrior and (Im)perfectly Zero Waste (co-authored with Srini Swaminathan) that teach us to manage our trash, Shubhashree says visual journaling is simply a form of reflection using words and images.

She adds that even someone who cannot draw or paint can get into visual journaling. She explains, “In fact, you need not know how to sketch or paint for visual journaling or not drawn anything since childhood. One can just draw, paint, simply cut and paste images from magazines, use hand-lettering, or even basic doodling. ”

The two-day virtual workshop (from January 7 to 9) that will be held over Google Meet will be on two themes: Looking forward and Looking back, as the workshop title suggests.
