** DRDO constructs multi-storey building in 45 days; to house R&D facilities for AMCA project

India’s premier defence research institute DRDO has built a multi-storey facility for flight control system at Aeronautical Development Establishment in Bengaluru in record 45 days using in-house technology, officials said on March 17.

The seven-storey building, with a plinth area of 1.3 lakh square feet, will house research and development facilities for the development of a fifth-generation medium weight deep penetration fighter jet for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

“The DRDO has completed the construction of a multi-storey infrastructure for flight control system at ADE Bengaluru with hybrid technology consisting of conventional, pre-engineered and precast methodology in record 45 days,” said one of the officials.

** KVGB launches micro insurance policy for vector-borne disease

A micro policy at affordable rate for providing insurance cover for vector-borne disease has been launched by Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) in association with Liberty General Insurance Co. Ltd.

Chairman of the KVG Bank P. Gopi Krishna and Vice-President of Liberty General Insurance Manish Kotian unveiled the special micro insurance product, Janarakshaka, at a function in Dharwad recently.

Mr. Gopi Krishna said that as the rainy season approaches, chances of people contracting vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, Japanese Encephalitis, Kala-azar, lymphatic filariasis and Zika virus increase.

Under the policy, the policyholder will get immediate relief of ₹10,000 as a one-time compensation if he contracted any of the vector-borne diseases. The claim procedure has also been simplified. In addition, an accidental death coverage of ₹20,000 has also been included in the policy.

** HAL signs MoU with Safran to extend cooperation on chopper engines

The ground-breaking ceremony for a new facility of Helicopter Engines MRO Pvt Limited (HE-MRO), a joint venture of HAL and Safran, a French aerospace firm, was held at Sattari in Goa.

According to a release from HAL, an MOU was signed to extend their cooperation and explore opportunities for new helicopter engines in civil and military markets, reflecting their commitment to the Indian Government’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” towards achieving self-reliance in defence technologies and MRO.

R. Madhavan, CMD, HAL, Franck Saudo, CEO, Safran Helicopter Engines and senior officers from the Indian Armed Forces and HAL were present on the occasion.

** City’s Architectural Firm Wins Award

VIBGYOR Architects’ was awarded as the best architectural firm at the UltraTech ‘Mera Makaan, Meri Shaan Competition 2020’ — a building competition for its uniqueness and how well it is built — for having designed a residential building named ‘Yashodhalaya’ owned by Gopal Swamy at Vijayanagar 1st Stage, Mysuru.

This building has won the State Award from Karnataka under the Pan India competition. H.S. Deepak of Deep Consultant was the Structural Consultant and Raviraj Constructions was the constructor. ACCE(I)-UltraTech Awards 2021 ceremony was held on March 5 at Windflower Resorts.

** Indian scientists develop touch-free touch screen that cuts virus spread

Scientists from the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced and Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bengaluru have set up a semi-automated production plant for the production of printing-aided patterns, with resolution of around 300 Aum. These electrodes have potential uses in advanced touchless screen technologies.

** IIT-B honours Munish Moudgil for Covid work

The Head of Karnataka State Covid-19 War Room, Munish Moudgil, was recently conferred with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay for the work that went into setting up the war room and also for the optimum use of technology during the pandemic.

Earlier, the 1998 batch IAS officer, in January 2022, had received the E-Governance Award from the Government of India, for using technology in Covid-19 management and for the war room.

** India’s first digital water bank sets up shop in Bengaluru

India, and possibly the world, got its first digital water bank, an initiative to aggregate water resources under a single platform, on Monday.

Science and Technology Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, who inaugurated the water bank in Bengaluru, extended the state government’s full support for the initiative, undertaken by AquaKraft Ventures, a company that specialises in sustainable initiatives to provide drinking water and sanitation to all.

** Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Technology Park launched in Karnataka

Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK), the first of its’ kind in the country, a not-for-profit foundation has been launched in the city on Monday.

ARTPARK promoted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bengaluru), with the seed capital of Rs 230 crore from the governments (Rs 170 crore from Centre and Rs 60 crore from the state government)

** Bommai launches scheme for door delivery of documents

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday launched a scheme to door deliver basic revenue documents such as caste certificates, income certificates, and land records (RTCs).

After the launch of the programme at Chickballapur, the Chief Minister said, “It is a pity that people, particularly farmers, have been made to run from pillar to post to get basic documents such as RTCs and other records. Under the programme, records would be delivered on the doorstep of people for free.”

** Bengaluru Metro’s first vinyl-wrapped train flagged off to mark 75 years of Independence

The first Metro train in Bengaluru with its exterior wrapped completely in vinyl was inaugurated on Friday from Platform 2 of the Kempegowda Metro station towards Kengeri on its Purple Line. This initiative by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to commemorate 75 years of Independence was flagged off by its Managing Director Anjum Parwez at 10.15 am.
