Project to improve treatment of neurological disorders was launched January

Soon diagnosis and timely treatment of common neurological problems, such as epilepsy, headache, stroke, dementia and brain infections, can be done from the grassroots level of primary health centres, secondary-level district hospitals and NIMHANS at the tertiary level in the State.

Recognising the need to improve treatment and prevent neurological disorders in the community, the State Government in association with NIMHANS and Niti Ayog launched the Karnataka Brain Health Initiative (Ka-BHI) in January.

** Ranbir Kapoor And Alia Bhatt’s Private Chef Is Kannadada Kanda – Ramaskanda

Ramaskanda Shastry is the Private Chef of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, the Bollywood stars, who are officially tying the nuptial knot today in Mumbai. The wedding festivities kick-started with mehendi ceremony yesterday.

Ramaskanda, a native of Bengaluru, faced a lot of brickbats, when he discontinued his BA History and Economics at the St. Joseph’s College, Bengaluru, six years back.

For a while, he pursued music and cooking, two of his passions. When his father Shantarama Shastry, a well-known family priest of many reputed families and himself a graduate in B.Sc Electronics, advised him to study ‘Hotel Management,’ Skanda joined for BA-Culinary Arts at WGSHA (Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration), Manipal. He worked as a Chef at W-Hotels in Goa, for about eight months. When he felt that the job was monotonous, he got introduced to Harsha Dixit in Mumbai, who was the Private Chef of Ranbir Kapoor.

Skanda started assisting Harsha Dixit since two years and for the last six months, he has been the Private Chef of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

** Udupi: Stroke Awareness Programme, Guinness World Record of Most Pledges Plaque to Kasturba Hospital

Stroke is an important non communicable disease. One in four adults will experience a stroke in their lifetime. To raise the awareness about stroke, on the eve of World Stroke day October 29, 2021, department of Neurosciences, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal conducted stroke awareness campaign.

Kasturba Hospital, Manipal along with various other institutions in India participated in creating stroke pledges for awareness through a stroke assessment App as an initiative taken by BoehringerIngelheim India, and attempted to create a Guinness World Record of ‘Most pledges received for a stroke awareness campaign’.

Kasturba Hospital, Manipal gave significant contributions and by creating a total of 17,691 pledges all over India, a Guinness World Record was successfully created.

The hospital also conducted stroke screening activity by Blood pressure and blood sugar check along with stroke awareness and education to over 500 patients/participants attending KH OPD. The pledge registration for all attempt was held on the portal https://strokeriskcalculator.in.

Legendary brass band maestro of the Bejai Brass Band “Konkan Sangeeth Shree” Harry D’Souza passed away here on Wednesday, April 13 due to age related illness.

Harry D’Souza was a musician who composed one tune every day, a music teacher who taught brass bands in 13 schools of city, a singer who enthralled the audience with his own Musical Nites, at the same time regaled the wedding guests in private wedding parties, an efficient managing proprietor of a century old Brass Band, a poet with a book of his own poems. 

** Bengaluru: HAL inks pact with Nigerian Army for Chetak HelicopterFlying Training

HAL has signed a contract with Nigerian Army for imparting Phase-II flying training on Chetak Helicopter for six officers of Nigerian Army Aviation.


This marks the continuation of contract signed in April 2021 for imparting Phase-I flying training to six Nigerian Army aviation officers, which was successfully executed in December 2021.

The Phase-II flying training on Chetak Helicopter is scheduled to commence from Monday and is planned to be completed by December 2022.

** Bengaluru joins global network of silk cities

Bengaluru has become the first Indian city to get into the global network of silk cities, celebrated French textile artist Isabelle Moulin said in Kolkata, expressing hope that in the next few years West Bengal’s Murshidabad district — known to produce fine silk in the over the past 300 years — may join the global silk city network.

“Two days ago, I launched the membership of Bengaluru — the first Indian city in the global Silk City network. Now, we have nine countries and 13 cities. If everything goes fine, then with time, I hope ‘Murshidabad Silk’ too can make it to the network. The network helps artisans and craftsmen to exchange knowledge, build trade relations and understand various craftsmanship techniques,” Ms. Moulin said during an interactive session with select media persons at Kolkata’s Oxford Bookstore.

** IIM-B convocation: 690 students graduate; 9 win gold medals

A total of 690 students across programmes, nine of whom were awarded gold medals, graduated from the institute. 

The one lesson from the two years of the pandemic is that change is constant, said Zia J. Mody, co-founder and managing partner of AZB and Partners, who was chief guest. In a virtual address to the graduating students, she said: “You had to achieve academic success amidst the COVID-19 challenge, and you have weathered all storms and come out ahead. Prof Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore, highlighted some of the achievements and accomplishments of the institute, with special focus on programmes, centres, events, the entrepreneurship hub NSRCEL, placements as well as the feats of the students and faculty. IIM-B is once again in the Top 100 in the QS World University Rankings in the Business and Management Studies category, ranking at #63 globally and #1 in India.

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), operator of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, is working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to establish a Joint Innovation Center (JIC) to drive the development and adoption of digital solutions in aviation.

The JIC will enable startups to accelerate innovation in aviation, smart infrastructure, utilities, and mobility by providing comprehensive programme offerings and a technical platform that helps customers innovate quickly by utilising AWS technology.

The JIC, the first such initiative dedicated to advancing the aviation industry, is expected to open at Bengaluru airport in 2022 and will focus on driving digital innovation for the airport, enhancing passenger experience, and creating a positive impact on the community where the airport operates.

** Organ donation: In a first, three green corridors created on a single day

Cadaveric organ donation got a boost in the city on Wednesday with three zero-traffic green corridors created on a single day to transport vital organs from different hospitals.

Authorities from Jeevasarthakathe, the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), which is the nodal agency that facilitates cadaver organ donations, said this is the first time that three green corridors had been created on a single day. There were back-to-back organ donations since Tuesday evening and two green corridors were also created on Tuesday night – one in Mangaluru and another in Bengaluru.

“We placed the requests for three green corridors with the Bengaluru traffic police in a gap of 30 minutes. While one green corridor was created at 10 a.m. on Wednesday from Manipal Hospitals on Old Airport Road to BGS Global Hospitals in Mysuru (to transport a liver), another was created at 10.30 a.m. from Aster RV hospital to MS Ramaiah-Narayana Hrudayalaya (to transport a heart). At 11 a.m., another corridor was created from the same hospital (Aster RV) to Bengaluru International airport to transport donated lungs to KIMS, Secunderabad
