** Shivamogga nurse wins Florence Nightingale Award

Gangamma P L was one among a dozen nurses who were felicitated by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar during the event.

A nurse from government-run McGann Teaching Hospital in Shivamogga was conferred Florence Nightingale Award in the Best Nurse category on the occasion of International Nurses Day on Thursday.

During her tenure at the General Hospital in Bhadravathi, between 1986 and 1990, Gangamma assisted in 2,500 family planning cases, both tubectomy and laparoscopic operations.

2,000 Karnataka citizens log into self-sketch platform

The Svavlambhi web platform allows citizens to prepare sketches of their plots without having to wait for a government surveyor.

Two weeks after the government allowed citizens to draw their own sketches for their landholdings online, about 2,000 users have logged in and 150 have paid for the service, authorities said.

** Mangaluru: Karnataka tops country in FDI inflow, says Nirani

Minister of Large & Medium Industries, Murugesh Nirani said the state is ranked number 1 in the country in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows.

Addressing a press meet at the TMA Pai convention hall, Nirani said, “Various companies are flocking to Karnataka with mega projects. For the past one year, Karnataka has been at the top position in attracting FDIs. Nearly, 42% of FDI into the country is from Karnataka. In the IT-BT sector, Karnataka is in the number one position. Karnataka is the silicon valley of India.”

For the first time in the country, he said Karnataka has introduced a policy for semiconductor companies. Under this, he said we have cleared three projects which would come in three locations. One project is coming up in Mysuru involving an investment of Rs 22,500 crore, he said.

He also said that the government is giving importance to EV vehicles and Ethanol fuel extracted from different raw materials. “In 2020-21, we have produced 12% ethanol in the country. In 2022-23, we would like to touch 20%. The Centre is providing an interest subsidy of up to 6%. The Union government is supporting in increasing the GDP of the country. It is providing financial assistance for the various sectors for instance Bulk Drug Park. This would come up in three places in the country. Already, we have reserved 3000 hectares of land in Kadechur, Raichur. Almost 80 drug industries are all set to invest in this place. The Union government will release Rs 1000 crore for the project,” he said.

** Mangaluru: KMC Hospital treats 10-year-old patient with first-of-its-kind surgery in India

KMC Hospital has successfully performed a dentofacial deformity procedure correction caused by TMJ Ankylosis via Total temporo mandibular joint replacement on a 10-year-old patient. Philip (name changed) had a previous history of multiple surgeries following diagnosis of ankylosis with various modalities. For the child, the medical condition had started 10 days postnatal in the form of a parotid abscess and had progressed to the current condition of ankylosis.

The full spectrum of treatment by way of multiple surgeries involved the use of ribs to promote growth in the lower jaw, creating a gap after the removal of bone at the level of joint and interposing muscle to prevent refusion. In addition to the above maneuvres, the child was also subjected to the principles of bone lengthening using distraction osteogenesis, which stems from the principles of orthopaedics by Ilizarov.

** Karnataka engineering students create mobile refrigerator for vegetable vendors

In a testimony to the adage ‘nothing is impossible when you believe’, a farmer’s son, along with three of his classmates, has designed a low-cost cooling solution for vegetable vendors, becoming the cynosure of all eyes at their college campus. Naveen HV, son of a farmer and native of Mandya, who is pursuing his engineering from Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in Mysuru, has come up with this innovation which helps vegetable vendors to keep their produce fresh while they are out selling them under the scorching Sun.

Naveen and his classmates Shubhan Sain, Supreeth S, and Vivek Chandrashekhar were determined to address one of the major problems that street vendors in the country face and decided to design and develop an economic cooling solution. Naveen, who headed the team and having first-hand knowledge about the struggle of a farmer and knowing the nuances of reaching the farm produce to houses did a complete research on the impediments by vegetable vendors.

** Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai make up for 35% of inverter demand among metro cities

Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai make up for 35 per cent of the demand for inverters in Tier-1 cities, a report found recently. The report, released by Justdial, shows that pan-India searches for inverters and ACs increased over the last month, with the three cities making up for a combined 35 per cent of the demand for inverters. Delhi, meanwhile, made up for 28 per cent of the demand for inverters. Tier-2 cities also saw a 146 per cent jump in searches for inverters on the site.

** Six national awards for KVG Bank

Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), one of the leading regional rural banks, has bagged six national awards in different categories for outstanding achievement under enrolment of Atal Pension Yojana (APY).

Chairman of KVGB P. Gopi Krishna received the awards from Chairman of Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Supratim Bandyopadhyay at a summit held at Chennai on Friday. The awards have been instituted by the PFRDA.

Mr. Gopi Krishna said that the bank had been implementing all the three social security schemes of the Union Government on priority so as to ensure access to social security benefits to villagers and people from unorganised sectors along with other banking activities. KVG Bank with jurisdiction over nine districts has a business turnover of ₹31,000 crore with a clientele base of nearly 90 lakh.

** ZEE opens technology, innovation centre in Bengaluru

Onboards over 700 tech experts to build metaverse network

Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE), a media & entertainment company, has opened a Technology and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru.

The new unit will build the metaverse network for the company with the help of AR, VR and NFT led delivery models and will focus on a futuristic tech stack which will enable omnipresent delivery of entertainment across platforms.

The company said it has onboarded over 700 tech experts to build cutting-edge products.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated the 80,000 sq. ft tech and innovation centre in Bengaluru on Friday.

** CFTRI brings out seven new technologies

Licences for some of the technologies have been taken by entrepreneurs

CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) on Wednesday announced the new technologies it has developed in the last one year, on the occasion of the National Technology Day that was observed here.

Also, the CFTRI gave licences to entrepreneurs for commercialising some of its technologies, thanks to the initiatives of the Technology Transfer and Business Development Department. Certificates and mementoes were presented to the licensee at the National Technology Day event for having used the technologies, by former Vice-Chancellor K. Chidananda Gowda who was the chief guest.

In total, seven new technologies, including gluten-free biscuits, gluten-free cookie cake, buckwheat noodles and pasta, multigrain nutri cookies, chikki with moringa, coffee brew mix, and high performance advanced oxidation process for STPs, greywater, industrial wastewaters (food and non-food), were developed by the R and D teams.

** Mega museum on Bhagavad Gita to be inaugurated in Hubballi

‘Bhagavad Gita Jnanaloka’, a museum dedicated to the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, with various shlokas being explained through illustrations, will be dedicated to the nation in Hubballi on May 15.

Convener of Prajapita Brahmakumaris Iswariya Vishwa Vidyalay Brahmakumari Nirmaladevi told presspersons here on Thursday that the museum would be Asia’s biggest on the Bhagavad Gita. The museum will be located at Om Shanthi Nagar on Bhairidevarakoppa- Gamanagatti Road in Hubballi.

“The museum campus is spread over five-and-a-half acres. It has 114 rooms and in each room there are artistic installations that explain the meaning of various shlokas so that even a layman can understand,” she said.
