** Yakshagana artiste Sampaje Sheenappa Rai passes away

Noted Yakshagana artiste Sampaje Sheenappa Rai passed away at a private hospital in Mangaluru on July 13.

He was 78. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Mr. Rai was a professional artiste for more than six decades having started his Yakshagana journey at the age of 13. He dropped out of school in class IV. He had mastered the nuisances of Tenku Thittu School of Yakshagana over the years.

Bantwal: First-of-a-kind ‘Suraksha-ICU’ KSRTC bus arrives at BC Road depot

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has designed Suraksha-ICU bus for the treatment of Covid patients. First bus of this kind arrived at the B C Road depot of KSRTC in order to provide health service to public of Bantwal taluk.

Under the limits of Puttur KSRTC division, which includes Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu, the first bus has arrived to Bantwal. MLA of the taluk Rajesh Naik Ullippadyguthu had met deputy chief minister and transport Laxman Savadi and requested him to provide an ICU bus.

** Krishna Joshi passes away

A teacher, journalist and Kannada activist, Krishna Joshi, who served Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Dharwad, for long in different capacities, passed away at a private hospital in Goa on Tuesday night. He was 76.

Krishna Joshi served the sangha as treasurer for two terms and was executive committee member for long. He participated in various Kannada agitations and actively coordinated various literary and cultural programmes. He has to his credit a unique record of having written nearly 80,000 letters on different issues.

** World Zoonoses Day: 8 ARV vehicles launched

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) launched a week-long intensive Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) drive on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day observed on July 6. As part of the initiative, it has committed to vaccinate at least 800 stray dogs every day in the city.

** Writer M.M. Kanakeri dead

Senior writer, editor and publisher of Susheel magazine M.M. Kanakeri passed away in Hubballi on Sunday. He was 90.

Mr. Kanakeri single-handedly published the magazine for five decades and used to circulate it among literary enthusiasts and friends.

He presided over the sixth Hubballi Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held in Hubballi in 2018.

He is survived by his wife and four daughters.

** India’s first tunnel aquarium opens at KSR railway station

From now on, anyone waiting to board a train, or to receive someone, at the KSR railway station can look forward to an exciting and relaxing activity.

For, a first of its kind aquatic kingdom set up in any railway station in India will be launched in the concourse portion at the entry of the station on Thursday. The joint venture by the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) and HNI Enterprises was planned for an April launch, but the Covid second wave delayed it.
