** ‘Hero’ stone from Vijayanagar Empire unearthed in Teggarse

Archaeology students of MSRS College dug out a stone inscription as part of a practical expedition.

A four-panelled stone inscription detailing a “hero’s” fight and a war scene, believed to be from the Vijayanagar Empire (1336-1646), was discovered at Teggarse, a small village in Byndoor taluk of Udupi district.

** Karnataka digital library: 1.91 crore viewers, 20 lac books read

As many as 1.91 crore people have already got themselves registered for the Karnataka Digital Public Library started by the Karnataka department of public libraries. This figure is expected to touch two crore by the end of this month. This will be the highest by any state in the country as a whole.

The digital library was started two years back with the aim of ensuring that books should be made available to everyone in the state and to give a boost to the habit of reading.
