The annual general meeting of the World Bunts’ Foundation Trust was held at Hotel Moti Mahal on Friday, February 4.

On the occasion, the Kothwal Gutthu Mechu Shedty Endowment award was given to Abhishek N Shetty and Vinith M Shetty and Kothwal Nadumane Rathna Shedtry endowment award was to Samarth Shetty. Late Dr D K Chowta Endowment award was presented to Yakshagana artiste Subbayya Shetty.

The child was Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, who would grow up to be a Hindustani classical legend who enthralled the world. “The musical rhythm of the prayer would draw him to the mosque every day,’’ says Shirish Joshi, Bhimsen Joshi’s biographer.

** Babanna Kalmani, Yamuna Murthy chosen for awards

Theatre artist Babanna Kalmani of Kunkanuru andtheatre-film artist Yamuna Murthy have been chosen to be the first recipients of the awards instituted in the name of theatre artistes Ramagopal and Nataraj Enagi by Bellad Education and Agriculture Development Foundation.

Addressing presspersons in Dharwad on Wednesday, president of the foundation and also the Karnatak Vidyavardhaka Sangha Chandrakanth Bellad said that the foundation has instituted the awards in the names of the late theatre artistes who havecontributed a great deal to theatre.

** Nrityagiri Calendar Released

Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji is seen releasing the 2022 calendar brought out by Nrityagiri Academy of Performing Arts and Research Centre on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee celebrations recently.

The calendar featured 15 photographs captured by Senior Journalist Shiva Subramanya.

Nrityagiri Founder-Director Dr. Kripa Phadke, her husband Vijay Kumar, brother Divakar Phadke, Natyacharya Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Publication Division Director Prof. Morabada Mallikarjun, Hon. Editor Purnananda and others were present.

** Individuals offering funds for heritage conservation in Karnataka

Their contribution is in addition to the PPP model and corporate initiatives

The Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage is encouraging public private participation in conservation and restoration of monuments in Karnataka, and the response is encouraging.

Ms. Poornima said the PPP model has encouraged lot of private players and individuals to pitch in for the cause of conservation. The Department, in association with Sri Dharmasthala Manjunateshwara Dharmothana Trust, has conserved 184 temples so far across Karnataka.

She said the PPP model provides funds of up to ₹10 lakh per monument of which 40% will be provided by the department, 40% has to be pitched in by the organisation taking up the conservation project while 20% has to be borne by the local community.

In addition to the PPP model, conservation initiatives have been taken by corporates. This includes restoration of the Panchakalyani at Melukote (Melkote) at a cost of ₹6 crore by the Infosys Foundation. Conservation and restoration has been taken by the TVS Group of Prasanna Krishnaswamy temple and Sri Mahabaleshwara temple in Mysuru, while the Chandramouleshwara temple at Hampi was restored by the Jindal group, said Ms. Poornima.

Apart from the PPP model and corporate initiatives, individuals too have pitched in with funds. This includes the construction of the Rajagopura of Sri Yoganarasimhaswamy temple at Melukote and restoration of Sri Gunja Narasimhaswamy tempe at T. Narsipura.

The Commissioner said there were 844 monuments under the protection of the State Archaeology Department. The 3D Mapping and Laser Scanning of these monuments is nearing completion. The project has been taken up in association with Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology.

** Udupi: Film director Girish Kasaravalli conferred with ‘Vishwaprabha’ award

 Samskriti Vishwa Prathishtana, Udupi, conferred the ‘Vishwaprabha’ award- 2022 to well-known film director Girish Kasaravalli on Monday, January 31, at Muddana Mantapa in MGM College in Udupi.

The award is instituted by Udupi Vishwanath Shenoy and Prabhavathi Shenoy to felicitate artistes in recognition of their contributions to the promotion of Kannada and culture. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lac and a citation.

** Hoysala temples are India’s nomination for World Heritage tag

The Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysala — the famed Hoysala temples of Belur, Halebid and Somananthpura in the State — has been finalised as India’s nomination for consideration as World Heritage for 2022-23. These protected monuments are on UNESCO’s tentative list since April 15, 2014, a PIB release on Monday said.

As part of the first step, the dossier to the World Heritage Centre, which will take up technical scrutiny, was submitted by Vishal V. Sharma, Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, to UNESCO Director of World Heritage Lazare Eloundou on Monday. “India is proud to nominate the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas for UNESCO’s World Heritage List! Art Historians recognise the exceptional sculptural artistry of the ensembles to be among the masterpieces of Asian art,” Mr. Sharma tweeted.

** Artiste chosen by Janapada Academy dies before award is presented to him

H.N. Ramaiah was chosen for Janapada Academy honour for the year 2021

Well-known keelu kudure artiste H.N. Ramaiah died at his residence at Honnavalli in Arakalgud taluk on January 31. Ramaiah, 92, had been chosen for Karnataka Janapada Academy award for the year 2021. However, he passed away before the academy could present the award.

Ramaiah was one of senior keelu kudure artistes in Karnataka. It is a folk art form in which men dance imitating the movements of a horse. Ramaiah had founded his own team of artistes and performed at various events. He led his team for more than six decades. He is survived by his wife Jayalakshmamma and four children. The last rites will be conducted in the village on February 1.
