** Joseph Periera completes Deccan Cliffhanger Ultra Cycling Race

He covered 643 km in 33 hours and 45 minutes

Joseph Periera became the first solo cyclist from Mangaluru to conquer the Deccan Cliffhanger Ultra Cycling Race, covering 643 km in 33 hours and 45 minutes on Sunday.

By completing the Deccan Cliffhanger race, Mr. Periera not only became the first Mangalurean to complete the solo race but also qualified for the Race Across America (RAAM) too.

** 3-day Indo-French Knowledge Summit from Nov. 24

The French Institute in India, a part of the Embassy of France in India, is organizing the third edition of the Knowledge Summit (KS3), an online event from November 24 to 26. It is co-hosted by Savitribai Phule Pune University in partnership with France’s Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA).

** Bengaluru Teacher Mehreen Mushtaq Wins Global Award In Artificial Intelligence

Mehreen Mushtaq Shamim, a teacher from Bengaluru’s Delhi Public School has bagged an award in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Intel AI Global Impact Festival.

She was selected as one of the four winners of ‘AI impact shapers: Teachers with innovative AI teaching learning practices’. Mehreen has been teaching AI in DPS East for nine years now. The CBSE curriculum had introduced AI as a subject for classes 9-12 in 2019.

** Bengaluru Tech Summit 2021: Infosys bags ‘IT Ratna of Karnataka’ award

IT major Infosys has bagged the ‘IT Ratna of Karnataka’ award for the company’s outstanding performance in IT exports in the above Rs 10,000 crore category. Apart from this award, 20 other companies, including Wipro, Mindtree and TCS, were awarded ‘IT Pride of Karnataka’ award given by STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) and the Karnataka State Government, as part of the Bengaluru Tech Summit that began  in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Chimera Technologies Co-founder and CEO Padma Duraiswamy bagged the ‘Woman Entrepreneur of the Year-IT’ award  and the ‘High Growth in Exports- IT/ITES’ award (exports greater than Rs 1000 crore and up to Rs 2000 crore) was bagged by Standard Chartered Global Business Services.

Two musicians from Bengaluru fusion band, MoonArra, are the latest guests on the celebrated Watford Jazz Junction Podcast, based in London.

City-based composer and guitarist Jagadeesh Ramanujam Mudambi and vocalist and songwriter Madhuri Jagadeesh founded the fusion music group MoonArra in 2006.

The band blends together the interactions and collective influences of Indian classical, jazz and world music. MoonArra — meaning ‘three streams’ — collaborates and connects with musicians and audiences worldwide, with a mission to share the messages of peace and harmony, goodwill and tolerance.

** Startups, crypto platforms among Bengaluru Impact awardees

The Bengaluru Impact awards were given away on Day 2 of Bengaluru Tech Summit 2021, to a number of recent as well as established startups from Karnataka. Bigbasket, Apna, Meesho, Curefit, Blackbuck were among those which took home the laurels, watched by a startup audience with participants from deep tech and medtech.

Fintech companies were also present, particularly CoinSwitch Kuber, a crypto exchange platform where more than 100 cryptos like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple etc can be traded at the best rate, and which offer a variety of payment options. 

Among the fintech awardees present were Zerodha, Cred and Groww. One of the awardees was online gaming platform Mobile Premier League (MPL). The lack of women entrepreneurs on stage was apparent, with an all-male fraternity gathering to receive awards.
