Saumyananda Sahi is the only cinematographer from Bengaluru to make it to BAFTA’s list of ‘Breakthrough India Participants for 2022’ for his film that captures the monkey menace in New Delhi .

Sahi made it to the list of ‘Breakthrough India Participants for 2022’ announced by the British Academy Film and Television Award (BAFTA).

** MoU inked with British Council to impart global skills to youth in Karnataka

he Government of Karnataka and the British Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday to renew their partnership in the areas of education, English, and arts aimed at creating global opportunities for the youth of Karnataka, stated a press release. 

It also paves the way to develop sustainable partnerships in research and innovation between centers of excellence (CoE) in the UK and Karnataka across areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, ed-tech, biosciences, and cybersecurity, said Minister of Higher Education Ashwath Narayan. The MoU, which is for the duration of three years, was signed at Vikasa Soudha.

** 27 films win awards at BIFFes

The awards were presented for films released in 2020 and 2021

The 13th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BiFFes) drew to a close on Thursday with 27 films winning awards in three categories – Asian, Kannada and Indian. The awards were presented for films released for two years, 2020 and 2021, as the festival was not held last year due to the pandemic. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot presided over the event and presented the awards.

University of Mysore has presented this year’s Award of Excellence to Dr. Mahadesh Prasad, Professor in Department of Biochemistry, Mahajana Post Graduate Centre, Mysuru, in recognition of his research work in “vaccine development for Corona viruses and Flavi viruses”. 

** Kalaburagi artist for Jordan

Kalaburagi-based artist Mohammed Ayazuddin Patel will participate in a three-day International Art Festival titled Colours of the World organised in collaboration with Amman Greater Municipality and SMD Foundation at Ras Al Ain Art Gallery, Amman in Jordan.

The festival will be inaugurated under the patronage of Anwar Halim, Ambassador of India in Oman, on Saturday.

** 64-year-old Mangaluru sportswoman bringing laurels for country

A living testimony to this is 64-year-old Bhavani Jogi from Sakleshpur in Hassan district and currently a resident of Mangaluru.

Bhavani, a nurse, is an accomplished sportswoman, who recently won three gold, a silver and a bronze medal in the 35th Annual Masters (Open) Athletic Championship held in Sri Lanka. And wait. That’s not all. She’s so far won more than 200 medals in field and track events. But it wasn’t an easy journey to the top for Bhavani. Though she was interested in sports since her childhood, she couldn’t pursue it as a career because of restrictions at home. It was only after she got married that Bhavani started participating in sporting events.

So when city-based fashion model Irene Augustin walked the ramp at the  London Fashion Week 2022, which took place between Feb 18 and Feb 22, it was a dream come true.

In fact, she was the only Indian model to have been there.

Scenes of relief and joy unfolded at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Sunday morning as the first batch of students from Karnataka, who were evacuated from war-hit Ukraine, arrived in Bengaluru.

Parents were seen hugging their children who were brought to safety. According to Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) Commissioner and Nodal Officer Manoj Rajan, 30 students from the State were safely evacuated by the Embassy of India, Kyiv.
