** Bangalore University makes entry into THE global employability ranking

 For the first time, Bangalore University (249th rank) has entered the Global Employability Ranking and Survey (GEURS) run by higher education HR consultancy Emerging and published by Times Higher Education (THE). 

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) obtained rank 61 globally and was the second-highest institute in terms of employability only after IIT Delhi.

** Bengaluru best in decent work, growth: Report

Bengaluru has been adjudged as the sole city in the ‘frontrunner’ category for decent work and economic growth index with a score of 79, although it is ranked 13th with a general score of 69.06 in Niti Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals Urban Index 2021 with 17 parameters. 

Apart from ‘Decent Work & Economic Growth’, the city has found a place in the front-runner category in six other parameters — quality of education; gender equality; clean water and sanitation; affordable and clean energy; climate action; and peace, justice and strong institutions.

** Bengaluru students to launch balloon satellite in January

Scientific payloads include a camera, radiation sensor, GPS module, a plant and a toothpaste will be on the high-altitude balloon.

The payload which is almost ready, will be launched into an altitude of 100 km above the sea level from Hosakote between 2 am and 4 am after getting clearance from the air traffic control, Shashank Mane, Facilitator at the Centre of Excellence, Chaman Bhartiya School, told TNIE.

The school has teamed up with a Bengaluru-based edu-space startup, Genex Space, he added.

The State Government has issued strict directions to Block Education Officers to issue transfer certificates to children wishing to move out of private schools if parents file an application. This decision was taken after reports of private school managements refusing to issue certificates, forcing parents to turn to the Government for help.

** BEL to develop smart drone delivery mailbox

Bengaluru-based company ties up with US company

Indianapolis-based DroneDek Corporation, a US firm that designs smart mailbox for secure drone delivery, entered into an agreement with Bengaluru-based Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to design, develop and produce smart mailbox units for worldwide distribution.

** Udupi: Rare fish caught at Malpe sold for record price of over Rs 9,000 per kg

  • A rare variety of fish which was caught in the fishnet laid out by some fishermen from Malpe brought luck to the fishermen. The fish, which is known in the local parlance as goli meenu (ghol fish), was sold for a record price.

The fish was the prized catch of Balaram Second Boat owned by Shan Raj Thottam. In the auction, the fish was sold for over a lac of rupees. At times, exotic varieties of fish catches bring huge rewards to the fishermen. This fish catch proved to be a good omen for the fishermen
