** Award to encourage original research on women’s mental health by OBGs

Minds United for Health Sciences and Humanity, a NGO also known as Minds United Trust, has instituted an award for original research on women’s health by postgraduate OBG or obstetrician-gynaecologist students.

As mentioned in the book that the proceedings from the royalty will be reserved for work in women’s mental health, it had been decided to institute an annual award for OBG postgraduate medical student in Karnataka for original research in women’s mental health.

The submission of the original research in women’s mental health for the Smt. Vimala Kulkarni Award with cash prize, certificate and memento should be before November 30 every year, the statement from Minds United Trust added.

** Hoysala temples are India’s nomination for World Heritage tag

The Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysala — the famed Hoysala temples of Belur, Halebid and Somananthpura in the State — has been finalised as India’s nomination for consideration as World Heritage for 2022-23. These protected monuments are on UNESCO’s tentative list since April 15, 2014, a PIB release on Monday said.

As part of the first step, the dossier to the World Heritage Centre, which will take up technical scrutiny, was submitted by Vishal V. Sharma, Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, to UNESCO Director of World Heritage Lazare Eloundou on Monday. “India is proud to nominate the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas for UNESCO’s World Heritage List! Art Historians recognise the exceptional sculptural artistry of the ensembles to be among the masterpieces of Asian art,” Mr. Sharma tweeted.

** Artiste chosen by Janapada Academy dies before award is presented to him

H.N. Ramaiah was chosen for Janapada Academy honour for the year 2021

Well-known keelu kudure artiste H.N. Ramaiah died at his residence at Honnavalli in Arakalgud taluk on January 31. Ramaiah, 92, had been chosen for Karnataka Janapada Academy award for the year 2021. However, he passed away before the academy could present the award.

Ramaiah was one of senior keelu kudure artistes in Karnataka. It is a folk art form in which men dance imitating the movements of a horse. Ramaiah had founded his own team of artistes and performed at various events. He led his team for more than six decades. He is survived by his wife Jayalakshmamma and four children. The last rites will be conducted in the village on February 1.

** Vijayapura student gets first rank in Karnataka in unani exams

Unani examinations were held by the RGUHS

Students of the SECAB Luqman Unani Medical College in Vijayapura have got encouraging results in the unani examinations held by the RGUHS. As many as five students have got State-level ranks.

Among degree students, Farah Khatoon Parvez Ahmed got the first rank with 81.67% marks, Khan Batul Mazar got the 7th rank with 79.94% marks and Aseema Mahin got 8th rank with 79.83% marks.

** Karnataka’s Republic Day Tableau Steals The Show

From skilfully made pots, carefully sculpted sandalwood miniatures to hand-woven sarees, Karnataka’s rich tradition of handicraft were on grand display at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi’s Rajpath on Jan. 26.

In fact, the Karnataka tableau stole the show with an eye-catching depiction of the land’s cultural icons. A massive Asiatic elephant sculpted out of Mysuru rosewood with ivory inlay carvings, impressive Bidriware, bronze statues and lacquerware toys from Channapatna were the highlights of the tableau which was based on the theme — ‘Karnataka: The Cradle of Traditional Handicrafts’.

** Racing Legend R.R. Byramji Passes Away At 88

Legendary racehorse trainer Rashid Rustomji Byramji (88) passed away on Saturday morning at Bengaluru.

He received his trainer’s license at the age of 21 from RWITC in May 1955 and retired at the end of the Bangalore Winter season in March 2017.

Rashid Byramji was rightly considered the greatest Classic trainer this country has ever seen. He saddled a record 3,170 winners, including 230 Classics, across the country.

** City team enters Wharton Investment Competition semi-finals

 Five Bengaluru students have entered the semi-finals of the Wharton Global High School Investment Competition. The team, ‘Team Comrades’ was one of the 50 teams to reach the semi-finals, out of 1,300 teams comprising 7,000 students across 64 countries.

The six-member team consists of five students from National Public School, HSR Layout – Anushka Dalal, Aryan Dixit, Arundhati Satyam, Atharv Kaushik, Shaina Dulles and Yuv Verdia from Delhi Public School, Hyderabad

** Stories on stones: City houses get new look with granite stones

This documentary captures the lives of prominent architects, the Kanade brothers, who brought in their own styles to the houses of Bengaluru.

The city’s housing structure has an interesting mix of old Chettinad architecture, British architecture and quintessential local styles. But as modern architecture seeped into the city, there came a pattern of houses built with granite stones. The main men behind the idea are Shankar Kanade and Navnath Kanade. Teepoi Production’s latest documentary Kanade, is based on these architect brothers.

The Kanade brothers are the brains behind the architecture of some iconic landmarks like Jal Bhawan, Jal Vayu Vihar to name a few. Content and research director Karishma Rao says she had always heard of the Kanade architects. “Many of the mentors from the industry also guided us in the project. They told us to capture the Kanade wisdom in some way or the other because they were very instrumental in the buildings of the  ’80s and ’90s,” says Rao, who, along with his team met Navnath Kanade for the first time at the Wadiyar Centre of Architecture, Mysuru in 2016. 

** Noted journalist Somnath Sapru dies in Bengaluru

 Reputed journalist and author Somnath Sapru (82) passed away at his residence at Bose Garden in Bengaluru on Friday, due to age. A Kashmiri Pandit, he pursued a career in journalism and specialised in Defence and Aviation. Sapru distinguished himself as the Editor of ‘The Pioneer’ as well as ‘The Indian Express’.

A leading historian on military aviation, his books on the subject are valuable reference material. They include ‘Skyhawks’, ‘Armed Pegasus’ and ‘Combat Lore: Indian Air Force: 1930-1945’.

** 7-yr-old receives mention in the India Book of Records for being the youngest one to create 100 paintings in 3 years

As a seven-year-ol d artist, we assume that Farhan Mohamed needs his parents’ help to explain his art work, but Fiza Taj, his mother, assures us that Mohamed will be more than happy to do it himself. The young artist from the city has received a mention in the India Book of Records 2021 which is recognised by the Government of India, for being the youngest one to create 100 paintings in three years.
