** Mahashivaratri celebrated with fervour

Mahasahivaratri was marked by special prayers and visits to temples by the devout, on Tuesday.

The Srikanteshwara temple at Nanjangud, the shrine of Male Mahadeshwara at M.M. Hills, Chamarajeshwara temple in Chamarajanagar, and the five shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva at Talakadu were among those with high footfall of devotees throughout the day.

In Mysuru city, there was a steady stream of visitors to Trinayaneshwara orTrineshwara temple on the palace premises to view the ‘’Chinnada Kolaga’’ or the golden mask which adorns the Shivalinga only on Mahashivaratri.

** Science Academy fellowship to P.M. Patil

 Prof. P. M. Patil of Department of Mathematics, Karnatak University, Dharwad, has received Fellowship of Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA), Bengaluru in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of mathematical sciences.

He received the Fellowship Certificate from Minister for Higher Education and IT, BT Dr Ashwath Narayan, former union minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and others in a function held at Bengaluru recently. Prof. P. M. Patil’s research work includes Convective Instability, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Boundary Layer Theory, Convective Heat and Mass Transfer problems in Newtonian and non-Newtonian Fluids, Nanofluids, hybrid nanofluids and related subjects..

The city’s civic body launched Pulse Polio – 2022 campaign, as part of a nationwide drive on Sunday. The Government has requested all parents to ensure that their children below the age of five get the polio drops administered, even if they had received the drops in the past. The campaign will continue till March 2.

** Lam Research India to sponsor fellowship program for MTech students at IISc. Bengaluru

Lam Research India, a supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) Bengaluru to offer a sponsored fellowship programme for second-year Master of Technology (MTech) students starting from the academic year 2022-23.

Lam India has been a part of CeNSE’s Industry Affiliate Program (IAP) since 2014 and was continuously engaging with the centre to collaborate on multiple innovative projects to advance the state of semiconductor technologies.

** Meet City’s Wushu Child Prodigy

G. Pranathi, a seven-year-old girl, has brought laurels to Mysuru by winning Gold Medal twice at the State-level Wushu Championship.

A resident of Gayathripuram, Pranathi is climbing up the ladder of success, beyond her age. Daughter of Photographer S.D. Giridhar and L. Sangeetha couple, she is a first standard student at Police Public School in city.

** CSIR-CFTRI hosts week-long mega event to promote science

A week-long mega science festival got off to a start on the premises of CSIR-CFTRI here on Tuesday and the event is part of a nationwide initiative launched with the support of various scientific and research institutions and central agencies as part of 75th anniversary of Independence – Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Titled “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” – Festival of SCoPE for All (Science Communication Popularization and its Extension), the festival is being organised simultaneously at 70 cities in the country, including Mysuru city, and the event showcases 75 films on science, 75 books on science, 75 different expos, 75 lectures, and 75 book fairs.

Science exhibition inaugurated at District Science Centre in Kalaburagi to mark National Science Week

A science exhibition on India’s achievements in the field of science and technology was inaugurated at the District Science Centre here on Tuesday. The week-long event is being organised as part of National Science Week and to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence by the Kalaburagi Science District Science Centre in association with Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi.

Narayana Inamdar, a scientist (retired), NRSA-ISRO, Hyderabad, and NASA, U.S., who inaugurated the event, urged the young students to be persistent in their goal of realising their dreams, quoting nuclear scientist and former President late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
