** Mangaluru: First ever three-day Konkani theatre fest by Natto’k Gho’r from Mar 25

‘Natto’k Gho’r’, a team of like minded theatre artistes, announced its first ever Konkani Theater festival which will be held from March 25 to 27 at the Don Bosco Hall in city.

The inauguration of the three-day theatre festival will be held on March 25 at 6 PM with a play, “Muja Puthacho Kinkulo” directed by Vikas Kalakul. Maand Group will present this drama. ‘Hando Utla’, a known drama of Late Chafra will be presented on the same day by Asthithva (R), Mangaluru. The play will be directed by Denis Monthiero.

** KE Women Entrepreneurs all set to inspire, empower, shine

After being an idea in the pipeline for over two years, the Kanara Entrepreneur’s (KE) women members held their first ‘Meet & Greet over High Tea’ on Saturday at The Grand Magrath, Bangalore.

Attended by 25 members who were kept actively engaged throughout the evening, the well organized event has set a powerful and motivating precedent for the group. The 4 PM sharp start was led with a prayer by Reshma Saldanha, past director mentoring, and followed up with a keynote address by KE president, Clarence Pereira who reiterated the importance of a safe space for women entrepreneurs in KE to freely discuss, or vent out about their unique challenges and concerns and at the same time, be a source of support for each other sharing and celebrating each others’ wins.

** Mangaluru: Vishwa Konkani Awards 2021 conferred on five eminent achievers

 The prestigious Vishwa Konkani Awards 2021 were conferred on five eminent achievers of various fields in a grand ceremony held at the World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar here on Sunday, March 20.

Massam, a collection of Konkani short stories by Antony Barkur (Antony Prakash D’Souza) was conferred with the Best Konkani Book of the Year (Prose) under Smt Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar 2021. Indradhonu Udeum, a collection of Konkani poems by Uday Narasimha Mhambro, reveived the Best Konkani Book of the Year (Poetry) under Smt. Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Kavita Kruti Puraskar 2021.

** Mangaluru: Tanmay Kottari bags two silver medals in 59th national roller skating championship

Tanmay M Kottari, who represented Karnataka in the 59th national level roller skating championship organized by Roller Skating Federation of India in New Delhi, has bagged two silver medals.

Tanmay is the son of Mohan Kottari and Sunita Mohan, residents of Prashant Nagar in Derebail here. He is studying in the eighth grade at Canara CBSE school in the city.

** A vision to guide the challenged – meet Vidhya Y from Karnataka

Mocked for choosing mathematics in her childhood and discouraged by several institutions and teachers against pursuing science, with a ‘caution’ that it would be too difficult for her, visually-impaired entrepreneur Vidhya Y dared to dream big. She defied all odds to not just bag gold medals in her Masters, but is today leading other visually-challenged people to taste success, through effective learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses.

Vidhya, along with Supriya Dey, an IT professional who was into research at IIIT-B; and Amit Prakash, a professor at the institute, founded Vision Empower (VE), a not-for-profit organisation that has designed an accessible learning management platform to promote experiential learning of STEM subjects, computational training, digital literacy, and early childhood programmes.

Its technology arm ‘Vembi Technologies’ has also developed the world’s most affordable Braille book reading solution for children called ‘Hexis-Antara’.

** Rammanahalli becomes first Karnataka village to come under WiFi net

Rammanahalli, on Mahadevapura Road, on the outskirts of Mysuru, has become the first village in Karnataka, to entirely come under WiFi internet coverage.

With the establishment of a Public Data Office (PDO), the entire village has become a cost-effective WiFi zone, with high-speed internet, provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), an Union government-owned telecommunications service provider.

** Losar Festival Ends At Bylakuppe With Fervour

Bylakuppe: The Losar festival celebrated from the first week of March at the Tibetan colony at Bylakuppe in Mysuru District on the way to Kodagu, concluded yesterday with prayers and wishes of long and healthy life for everyone.

Losar marks the beginning of the New Year as per the Tibetan calendar. The main festival of Losar 2149, the Year of the Water Tiger, was observed from Mar. 3 to 6 and the celebrations continued till last evening. As part of the festival, Tibetans living in Bylakuppe visited various Buddhist Temples in the vicinity and offered prayers.

** Mangaluru: Two-day annual Vishwa Konkani Samaroh inaugurated

The two-day annual Vishwa Konkani Samaroh, celebrating the Konkani language, literature and culture was inaugurated by Jnanapith awardee Konkani writer, Damodar Mauzo here on Saturday March 19, at the World Konkani Centre here.

Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Prathistan, in association with Kendra Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Konkani Adhyayan Peeth, Mangalore University and Kavita Trust are organising the Vishwa Konkani Samaroh 2022.
