** Dharwadi breed of buffaloes win national recognition

Everyone knows about the Dharwad Pedas which just melt in our mouths. This Peda is universally known for its texture and taste. Likewise, Dharwad buffaloes have now won national recognition. The local species of buffaloes which were confined to the Dharwad region have now been awarded the status of a unique breed.

When a breed gets national recognition, normally their development gets momentum. Mudhol breed of dogs have got that importance. Now the Dharwad breed of buffaloes have been given the pride of place in the list of nationally recognised buffalo breeds. There were 17 breeds in the list, to which the Dharwadi breed has been added now.

** HAL, Rolls-Royce ink new pact for Make-in-India Adour engine spares for global market

As part of the pact signed with Rolls-Royce, Defence Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will supply spares for the Adour Global Supply chain, and thereby support the former’s international defence customer base.

Adour is a twin-spool, counter-rotating turbofan engine by Rolls-Royce whose defence segment is a market leader in aero engines for military transport and patrol aircraft with strong positions in combat and helicopter applications, as per the company. The agreement was signed and exchanged between B Krishna Kumar, Executive Director (Engine & IMGT), HAL and Abhishek Singh, Senior Vice President – Defence, India and South East Asia, Rolls Royce, in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

** Mangaluru: Dr Raviraja Shetty G receives Biodiversity Conservation award

: Dr Raviraja Shetty G who is working as associate professor and head at Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Ullal, Mangaluru has been conferred with Biodiversity conservation award from Karnataka Biodiversity Board, Jilla Panchayath Dakshina Kannada and department of Social Forestry, Mangaluru.

The award was given in a programme held at Nethravati Hall, zilla panchayat, Mangaluru on September 3, 2021 on the eve of International Biodiversity Campaign – 2021.

This award was given considering his research, teaching and extension towards conservation, cultivation and management of rare, endangered and threatened medicinal plants of Western Ghats and based on the research papers published in reputed scientific journals.

Ruth hails from Mallikatte. She is the daughter of Rosy Maria D’Silva and Ruffert D’Silva. She did her schooling at St Theresa’s School and PU at St Agnes College. She has also done an undergraduate course through distance education from Mangalore University.

What makes the achievement even more special is the way Suhas Yathiraj allocated time for both his administrative duties and badminton in Noida.

On Sunday, Jayashree was a proud mother. Her son, para-shuttler Suhas Yathiraj, secured the silver medal in the men’s singles SL4 class. As the feeling sunk in, she dialed her son, just to hear his voice and bless him. Yathiraj asked his mother, “Amma nanu hege adide? Gold barubahuditteno!”

(How did I play, mother? I might have won gold!). The mood in the entire Yathiraj clan was understandable as other members of the family lined up to congratulate Karnataka-born Suhas, who has impairment in one of his ankles.

** ‘Mara Mitra’ app launched

The app was simultaneously launched in nine districts of Karnataka where volunteers of Cauvery Calling are working with Karnataka Forest Department and 890 Mara Mitras.

Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar on Thursday launched the Mara Mitra (a tree’s friend) app, created by Cauvery Calling, as part of a series of initiatives being undertaken for an afforestation drive along the Cauvery basin.
