** Gadag cyclist Pavithra Kurthakoti gets latest imported bicycle from Bommai

National Cycling Athlete Pavithra Kurthakoti from Gadag district was presented with the latest Aergon – 18 E119 brand bicycle specially imported from Canada by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on Friday.

** Brahmavar: ‘Hanging Bridge’ Girish Bharadwaj chosen for Shivaram Karanth Huttoora Prashanti

 The selection committee formed for the purpose has chosen Girish Bharadwaj from Sullia for awarding of the prestigious ‘Dr Shivaram Karanth Huttoora Prashanti – 2021’. This award has been jointly instituted by Kotathattu gram panchayat and Dr Karanth Huttoora Prashasti Foundation.

Fondly known with the name, ‘Setubandhu’, Girish Bharadwaj has lighted up the lives of rural people by building 130 hanging bridges. He also is active in social service. Considering his achievements, the union government has conferred the ‘Padma Shri’ civil honour on him.

** Kundapur: Meet Sathish Hegde who mastered freshwater pisciculture besides agriculture

Sathish Hegde, a young farmer from Rattaddy village stands as an example to prove that even barren land can be converted into gold if hard work and confidence coupled with honest efforts are combined.

In recognition of his achievements, he has bagged agriculture award from Dharmasthala in 2015, best agriculturist award of Kundapur taluk in 2017, and Sablady Sheenappa Shetty award – 2018. He also served as the president of Kundapur taluk central society of DRDP during 2015-17. He is an enthusiastic young farmer who goes to different places to impart information about agriculture.

Pisciculture: For the last six to seven years, he has been undertaking freshwater pisciculture. He has built a tank for the purpose. He had got training organized by DRDP at Amasebail about pisciculture. Many who have drawn inspiration from him are now undertaking pisciculture.

** Mangaluru: Prepare your taste buds to savour fish chakkuli

Fish, which usually was found on the table during the dinner or lunch of coastal people has now been presented in the form of a crispy eatable which can become a regular item along with tea.

The fish chakkuli (chakli) made by four women has succeeded in winning over the hearts of the fish lovers.

** 10 additional judges of Karnataka HC, 2 of Kerala HC elevated as permanent judges

According to notifications issued by the Department of Justice, justices Maralur Indrakumar Arun, Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh, Ravi Venkappa Hosmani, Savanur Vishwajith Shetty, Shivashankar Amarannavar, Makkimane Ganeshaiah Uma, Vedavyasachar Srishananda, Hanchate Sanjeevkumar, Padmaraj Nemachandra Desai and Panjigadde Krishna Bhat, additional judges of the Karnataka High Court, have been made judges of the same high court with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has chosen the vegan foods’ logo designed by a Bengaluru-based college girl.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has chosen the vegan foods’ logo designed by a Bengaluru-based college girl. The logo, a simple ‘V’ with a small plant on top of it has been recognised, approved and will be the face of all vegan foods.

It took only 20 minutes for Kruti Manish Rathore (22), an MSc, second year, Food Science and Nutrition student of Mount Carmel College,  to come up with the idea.  FSSAI released the logo for all vegan foods on September 21 and stated: “The new logo is green in colour, as a V inscribed in the middle with a small plant on top of it.”  

** Bangalore: Fr Vineeth George CMF wins PRCIs National Talent Hunt

Fr Vineeth George CMF, a Catholic priest belonging to the Bangalore province of the Claretian Congregation has won the four-month long inter-chapter talent hunt for the best speaker, organised by the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI).

Fr Vineeth was declared the winner by a 12-member jury comprising top PR and communications professionals of India. He was presented the trophy and citation during the 15th edition of the World Communication Conclave held at Goa during September 18-19, which was graced by Sreedharan Pillai, the Governor of Goa; Dr Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa and Govid Gaude, the Cultural Minister of Goa.
