** 3D, laser mapping of 125 monuments in 8 districts completed

The 3D and laser mapping of 125 monuments spread over 8 districts in south Karnataka region under the jurisdiction of the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Karnataka, have been completed.

The exercise was taken by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) under the Karnataka Digital Heritage project. This entails 3D mapping of 844 protected monuments across Karnataka coming under the State Department of Archaeology.

While the report pertaining to105 monuments spread over 9 districts coming under Bengaluru division was submitted last year, the report on 125 monuments under Mysuru division was submitted recently.

** ‘Oxygen on wheels’ in all districts

The State road transport corporations are ready to provide ‘Oxygen on Wheels’ services in all districts if private groups or NGOs come forward to sponsor oxygen concentrators and equipment required for providing oxygen inside buses, Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Laxman Savadi said.

** Two inscriptions dating back to 14th and 18th centuries discovered in Rajanukunte

Both pertain to land grants in the erstwhile ‘Yelahanka Nadu’

Bangalore’s St.Andrew’s Church First Opened for Worship : 1866

St. Andrew’s Church (formerly St. Andrew’s Kirk), Cubbon Road, Bengaluru (Bangalore)

November 18th, 1866. St. Andrew’s Church – a Presbyterian church built with massive Scottish architecture is a prominent edifice in the city’s landscape which has retained its old glory. Named after the patron Saint of Scotland – St.Andrew , the church was originally home to the Scottish regiment in the Bangalore cantonment

The foundation stone for St.Andrew’s Kirk (as it was called then) was laid on November 22nd, 1864 by Lady Grant the wife of Lieutenant-General Sir.Hope Grant ,the Quartermaster-General of Her Majesty’s Forces

Designed by engineers Major Sankey, Chief Engineer and R.C. Dobbs, Executive Engineer of Mysore. The building was completed and opened for worship on November 18th, 1866

Heritage: (*) It has a 90-foot belfry tower that houses the church bell that has been ringing since 149 years  (*) The clock has been installed in 1893  (*) The church houses an 800-odd pipes-fitted pipe organ. Built by Peter Gonacher & Co., England. The pipe organ was installed on May 03rd, 1881

Karnataka becomes First State in India to create ‘ Special Tiger Protection Force’ (STPF) – August 2012

Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF), Bandipur Tiger Reserve

Karnataka becomes first state in India to create the ‘Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) in the Bandipur Tiger Reserve to enhance its conservation efforts. It is India’s first forest ranger unit created and tasked specifically to prevent tiger poaching.

Karnataka state has about 6 tiger reserves.

The Central Government has an ongoing centrally sponsored scheme of ‘Project Tiger’ under the Environment and Forest Ministry, Government of India.  100% percent Central assistance is provided to States for raising, arming and deploying in sensitive tiger reserves.
