** Winners Of National-Level Throwball Championship

The boys throwball team of Sapient College of Commerce and Management, Mysuru — B. Yashas Darla (Captain) A. Akshay (Vice-Captain), S. Sanjay, M.J. Harsha, Tanuj M. Shetty, Darshan M. Gowda, Daivik, M.G. Vineeth Babu and R. Varun — under the guidance of Physical Education Director H.S. Prashanth, has bagged first place in the National Championship organised by the Youth and Sports Promotion Association (YSPA) in Goa.

** Football: Appointed As Head Coach Of A Super Division Team

Praveen Raju, Technical Director of Vijayanagar Football Club (VFC), Mysuru, has been appointed as the Head Coach for Dream United Football Club located at Bengaluru for the upcoming season in the BDFA Super Division 2022-23.

Apart from being a passionate footballer himself, Praveen Raju is an Asian Football Confederation ‘C’ license holder and an All India Football Federation ‘D’ license holder.

** 64-year-old Mangaluru sportswoman bringing laurels for country

A living testimony to this is 64-year-old Bhavani Jogi from Sakleshpur in Hassan district and currently a resident of Mangaluru.

Bhavani, a nurse, is an accomplished sportswoman, who recently won three gold, a silver and a bronze medal in the 35th Annual Masters (Open) Athletic Championship held in Sri Lanka. And wait. That’s not all. She’s so far won more than 200 medals in field and track events. But it wasn’t an easy journey to the top for Bhavani. Though she was interested in sports since her childhood, she couldn’t pursue it as a career because of restrictions at home. It was only after she got married that Bhavani started participating in sporting events.

City Students Excel In Yoga

The following students of Sree Nataraja Public School, Sree Hosamutt,  Shankar Mutt Road, participated in the Sub-Junior Boys and Sub-Junior Girls Artistic Group in the ‘Karnataka Individual Yogasana Sports Championship – 2021,’ organised by Karnataka Yogasana Sports Association, Bengaluru, at Haveri on Oct. 25 and have won prizes:

M.D. Vaishnavi (VI std.) – 1st prize; Vedika Manya Shivam (V std.) – 1st prize (Yoga Kishori); Neeraj Rajiv Shivam (VII std.) – 1st prize; Rajath Giri (VI std.) – 1st prize (Yoga Kishora); Harshitha (IV std.) – 1st prize (Yoga Kishori).

** Meet City’s Wushu Child Prodigy

G. Pranathi, a seven-year-old girl, has brought laurels to Mysuru by winning Gold Medal twice at the State-level Wushu Championship.

A resident of Gayathripuram, Pranathi is climbing up the ladder of success, beyond her age. Daughter of Photographer S.D. Giridhar and L. Sangeetha couple, she is a first standard student at Police Public School in city.

** Mangaluru: INTACH organises ‘Nurturers of the Cherry Garden’

Mangaluru Chapter of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is organizing an exhibition of rare vintage photographs of the journey of cricket in Mangaluru from the collection of Kasturi Balakrishna Pai, former cricket umpire of Mangaluru region.

The exhibition organised under the title ‘Nurturers of the Cherry Garden’ will open on 19th February, 2022 at 05:30 pm at Kodialguthu Center for Art and Culture, GG Road, BallalBagh, Mangalore and the display will remain open to visitors till February 23, between 11 am and 7 pm.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by K Vishnu Shenoy, a member of the first team of Mangalorean cricketers which went to Mysuru and Bengaluru in 1957 in the presence of Basty Purushotham Shenoy, former captain of KREC (NITK) cricket team.

** Joseph Pereira, the first Mangalorean SOLO cyclist to conquer the Deccan Cliffhanger Ultra Cycling Race in 33hrs 45min!

Touted as one of the gruelling races in the Ultra Cycling calendar, Deccan Cliffhanger always challenges the best cyclits from across the boarders of India.

Starting from the picturesque hill city of Pune, this 643 km race is an adventurous and challenging ride, as the route passes through some humangous climbs of Khandala Ghat on NH48, 21km of vertical ascent to the top of Panchagani, followed by Pasarni Ghat and the rolling terrain from Satara to Belgaum, where the scorching heat and headwinds make it almost impossible to pedal.

Taking the inroads from Belgaum to Goa, the route passes through the dense forest, ascends to Chorla Ghat and then slowly descends to the sea level at Ponda culminating at the beach near Bogmalo, South Goa.

** Wins Silver Medal In National Kickboxing Championship

Vibha P. Ravindra of Karnataka Kickboxing Sports Association (WAKOIND-KA) has won a Silver Medal in the Cadets and Junior National Kickboxing Championship organised by WAKO India Kickboxing Federation, recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India and Member, World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO), International Olympic Committee (IOC) at Boxing Hall, Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Mahalunge, Pune, Maharashtra, held between Dec. 21 and 25, 2021.

She secured the Silver Medal in the 3 KL038 YC F -37kg KL category.

** Breaking the ice: Meet Jiah Aryan, teen skiing sensation from Bengaluru

B’luru teen who participated in the National Winter Games, in Uttarakhand recently, about her passion for skiing and her dream to represent India at the Olympics.

Aryan missed a gold by a whisker, but ended up with a silver during the alpine skiing at the Junior Nationals Skiing and Snowboard competition held at Gulmarg last year.
