** Muddappa posts fastest time as Bengaluru riders dominate drag races

Riders from Bengaluru, spearheaded by reigning champion Hemanth Muddappa, swept the honours in the first round of the MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship which concluded at the MMRT, here on Sunday amidst Covid-19 safety protocols.

Muddappa, 31, astride his Suzuki Hayabusa, was the quickest of all riders, clocking 07.882 seconds over 302-metres strip while winning the featured Super Sport Above 1051cc category ahead of fellow-Bengalureans Hafizullah Khan (08.116) and Harish Naik (08.538).

It is a proud moment for Belagavi as three budding women football players from the city have made it to the Indian side for the Mini Football Women’s World Cup-2021, which will be held in Ukraine this month.Anjali Hindalgekar, Aditi Jadhav and Priyanka Kangralkar are all degree students studying in different colleges. Apart from them, Vibha and Sanjana from Bengaluru too have made it to the national team.

In what is said to be the first of its kind facility in South India, a sports laboratory that would assess and tell a sportsperson if they have chosen the right sport for their body frame is coming up in Karnataka.

The ₹29 crore facility in government-run Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics in Bengaluru is touted to be the second such facility in the country after the State-run Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. The foundation stone for the new building that will house the laboratory was laid on Thursday.

** Kodagu Hockey Coach Leaves For Tokyo With Women’s Team

Ankitha Suresh, a Hockey Coach from Kodagu, who has made a mark in national and international-level hockey, has left for Tokyo Olympics along with the Indian Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams.

She has been selected as Assistant National Coach by Hockey India for the Indian Senior Women’s Hockey Team.
