** Medal Winners At National Karate Championship

In the 3rd National-level Karate Championship held at Hubballi,  the following students of Pandit’s The Orchids PU College, under the guidance of Sensei Siddaraju M. Shetty, have bagged medals in different categories:

Nithin K. Gowda – 1st place in 16-18 years boys Kumite and 2nd place in 16-18 years boys Kata (Pool-A)

M. Jeevan – 3rd place in 16-18 years boys Kumite and 1st place in 16-18 years boys Kata (Pool-B)

** Mysuru Golfer Aryan Roopa Anand Retains All-India Amateur Title

Mysuru boy Aryan Roopa Anand retained his IGU All-India Amateur Golf Championship title defeating Yuvaraj Singh, at the Poona Golf Course in Pune.

The last amateur to win back-to-back titles was Bengaluru’s S. Chikkarangappa, over a decade ago.

Aryan is the son of Anand Kumar, who works with a leading telecom service provider and Roopa, a home-maker. Aryan started playing golf at JWGC, Mysuru and won the first tournament he played, which was the key motivator for him to start pursuing golf more seriously.

After moving out of Mysuru and shifting to Bengaluru, he started playing at KGA, Bengaluru. 

** World Senior Badminton Tournament At Spain: Government School Maths Teacher Wins Bronze Medal

Sunil Gladson Varadaraj, who works as an Assistant Teacher at Hosamalangi Government High School in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar, is the one who had excelled at track & field events during school days and then was part of State Kho Kho team before switching to shuttle badminton.

Now, adding feather to his cap is the Bronze Medal he won at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Senior Badminton Championship held at Carolina Marin Stadium in Huelva of Spain between Nov. 28 and Dec. 4, 2021.

With this win, he becomes the first Mysurean to win a medal at BWF World Championship.

Partnering with Abhinand K. Shetty of Bengaluru, Sunil won Bronze Medal in the Men’s 40-plus Doubles category at the Tournament. In semi-finals, Sunil-Abhinand duo lost to JBS Vidyadhar-Ajit B. Umrani 10-21, 14-21.

** Parasailing starts as a weekend must-do at Bengaluru’s Jakkur

The new weekend attraction in town is parasailing, started by the department of youth empowerment and sports, along with General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure (Gethnaa). 

Parasailing at Jakkur started on December 12, and was an instant hit with around 25 people taking to the air. The department has now decided to make it a weekly affair, to be held every Sunday.

** Wins U-18 Tourney In Vancouver

Mysuru boy, 14-year-old Mustafa Raja won his first U-18 Tournament in Vancouver, Canada, today.

Mustafa, seeded fifth in the Tennis BC U18 4 Star Tournament, held his nerves at crucial moments, saving two match points in the finals, winning the tournament defeating the top seeded player Denny Bao 2,6; 7,6(7) and 6,1.

By virtue of this win, Mustafa became the top player in his age category in British Columbia and Top 4 in Canada. Mustafa trains at the Tennis Centre in Surrey, Vancouver and studies at the Sullivan heights Secondary School.

** Winners Of National-Level Karate Championship

The Karatekas of IKA Karate Academy, Mysuru and Kali Warriors Academy, Karnataka, under Pekiti Tirsia Kali India in city, have bagged various prizes in the 3rd National-level Karate Championship organised by Shotokan Karate Do Sports Association and Sensei Durganada on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 in Hubballi.  

** Karnataka girls selected for national-level skating competition

Anagha Rajesh and Arna Rajesh have been selected for national-level roller skating competition, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from December 11 to 14.

The girls had won medals at 37th state-level roller skating championship organised by Karnataka Roller Skating Association in Bengaluru recently.

** Mangaluru: Tasmayi, Jesnia bag gold in 37th State Speed Skating Championship

Tasmayi and Jesnia bagged gold in the 37th State Speed Skating Championship held at Bengaluru on November 25 to 28, 2021.

The Championship was organised by Karnataka Roller Skating Assocation. More than 450 skaters participated in the Championship. A total of 10 skaters from Mangalore Roller Skating Club participated and won a total of 15 medals.
