** Olympian M.P. Ganesh, Padma Shri Awardee, Is ‘Coorg Person Of The Year-2021’

Olympian M.P. Ganesh, who captained the Indian hockey team and was honoured with the Padma Shri by President Ram Nath Kovind, is Coorg Person of the Year-2021.

Mollera Poovaiah Ganesh, hailing from Suntikoppa in Kodagu district, was selected ‘Coorg Person of the Year’ in a poll conducted by www.coorgtourisminfo.com, Kodagu’s first news portal, promoted by journalist and author P.T. Bopanna.

** District Police Sports Meet Concludes: Mysuru District Armed Reserve Police Team Bags Overall Trophy

The three-day sports meet for District Police, organised by Mysuru District Police at the District Armed Reserve (DAR) Police Parade Grounds at Jyothinagar here, concluded yesterday evening.

The District Armed Reserve Police team, which had garnered most points by winning prizes in various sports events, bagged the overall team championship trophy. While Raghunandan of DAR bagged the individual award in the men’s category, K. Ashwini of Bannur Police Station bagged the award in the women’s category.

** City MMA Fighters Excel

Fourteen Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters of the Academy of Martial Science participated in the 6th Bangalore Open MMA Championships held in Whitefield, Bengaluru, between Dec. 16 and 19.

A total of 213 MMA athletes from 25 States participated in the event that was hosted by Association of Mixed Martial Arts Karnataka (AMMAK) and sanctioned by MMA India.

The medallists will be representing State at the National Championships that will be held in Chhattisgarh in February 2022.

** Bags Gold In Wrestling

H.A. Akhilesh, an MCA student at the city’s Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Post-Graduate Centre, has bagged a Gold medal  at the State-level  VTU Inter-collegiate wrestling contest  held at Haliyal in Uttara Kannada district recently.

He got the medal for winning  four bouts (97 Kg category) in the Round Robin league of the tournament, according to a press release.

** Mysuru Veteran TT Players Excel

Dr. B.R. Sainath Iyer (Mysuru) walked away with the 75+ Men Singles gold though he had to face a stiff challenge from Mallikarjuniah in a league match. Mallikarjuniah bowed down to Dr. Sainath in the final game of the match at 9-11 score.

Sushila Devi Pillay, Mysuru, got a silver against the gold medallist Bhavana Gopal, retired employee of Canara Bank, Mangaluru.

Dr. Shantharam, Prasanna Kumar and Ashok Dahibati, all from Mysuru, got bronze for their semi-final positions in their respective events.

Dr. Shantharam surprised the audience with his consistent attacking game while Prasanna Kumar was a veritable with his good defence.

** Mangaluru: Jesnia Correa wins Gold at National Skating Championship

Jesnia Correa of Mangalore Roller Skating Club Won Gold Medal in the 59th National Speed Skating Championship held at G R International School Skating Rink, Delhi from

December 11-22, 2021. The Skating Championship was Organised by Roller Skating Federation of India .
