** Gulf Medical University Hosts first-ever ‘White Coat Fashion Show’ by healthcare heroes

Gulf Medical University along with DCOM designs, Root Square, and the Paint Brush Art Community, Dubai organized the first-ever fashion show in the region by Healthcare heroes. The event, called Walking Art, is a tribute by the artistic community of the United Arab Emirates towards our frontline heroes.

The program was attended by Prof Hossam Hamdy, chancellor of Gulf Medical University- the chief guest of the function, along with Dr Bu Abdullah, chairman of BU Abdullah group and Uttam Chand, consul of Visa and community affairs, consulate of India, who were the guests of honor.

The fashion show was started with an opening act by Gulf Medical University Alumni led by Dr Ramita, and comprising of participants Dr Afrah, Dr Kajal and Dr Sandra.

SELCO Foundation introduces the Solar Kuteer project to help women and the differently-abled who were hit by the lockdown.

Manjunath Bhagwath, head of SELCO Foundation in Chitradurga and Davanagere, said that SELCO has been funding such projects for the uplift of marginalised populations. With a nominal amount from the beneficiary, the Foundation ensures that the latter “feel responsible towards their work”. The projects were implemented in association with organisations that work for women and differently-abled citizens.

** All-India Doctors’ Virtual Choir: Medicos sing songs of hope in times of distress

Over 50 doctors and medical students across the country gathered for the first All-India Doctors’ Virtual Choir, singing covers of songs that reflect the doctor’s mission.

‘Alterdoctor’ — a platform of doctors to express their hobbies such as writing, photography, art, and music — recently released a video featuring medical professionals across the country in a virtual choir to celebrate the pride and honour of being in the medical profession.

** Docs pedal to Mangaluru, to raise awareness on violence against doctors

They undertook the ‘Bridge the Gap’ cyclothon to build a stronger relationship between the public and healthcare community.

Dr Justin A Gopaldas, consultant, critical care medicine, and Dr Nikhil Narayanaswamy, intensivist at Manipal Hospitals, Jayanagar, started the cyclothon at 7.30am and invited fellow healthcare workers to join them in their journey to #savethesaviours, and reach Mangaluru by July 28.

** NIMHANS to open residential dementia care, training centre

“This will be a first-of-its-kind centre in the country which will have a range of dementia services, including acute care, long-term care, respite care to give caregivers a break and palliative care.

Professor C R Chandrashekar, former professor of psychiatry, NIMHANS, and founder of Samadhana Counselling Centre was felicitated for donating Rs 50 lakh to support the operational expenditure of the 40-bed REC Dementia Care Centre. He had earlier donated Rs 50 lakh for the same and Rs 8 lakh from his foundation.

** Hospital launches drive to honour Covid warriors in Bengaluru

Under the programme, healthcare professionals in over 300 hospitals in Bengaluru will be honoured over the next 12 days.

To acknowledge the efforts of healthcare professionals in government and private hospitals, Kauvery Hospitals on Monday flagged off Kritagnya programme, launching five vehicles that will visit each hospital and honour these Covid warriors.

The 12-day programme will culminate on July 31, when awards for Best Medical Innovation during the Covid pandemic will be given away in two different categories (Clinical and Non-clinical). An independent panel of juries is being set up to decide the winners. Scholarships will also be awarded to school and college-going children of healthcare workers who have lost their lives, while graduates will be helped with job placements as per their qualification. Parallelly, a vaccination drive for the underprivileged communities will be held.
