** Rammanahalli becomes first Karnataka village to come under WiFi net

Rammanahalli, on Mahadevapura Road, on the outskirts of Mysuru, has become the first village in Karnataka, to entirely come under WiFi internet coverage.

With the establishment of a Public Data Office (PDO), the entire village has become a cost-effective WiFi zone, with high-speed internet, provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), an Union government-owned telecommunications service provider.

To understand disease patterns and improve treatment outcomes using artificial intelligence (AI) tools, Aster CMI Hospital has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) to launch an AI lab.

The lab was launched by Azad Moopen, founder Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare; Lokesh B., Consultant Neurology at the hospital; and Phaneendra K Yalavarthy, Professor of Medical Imaging, Department of Computational and Data Sciences, IISc.

** Chikkamagaluru becomes first district in the country to complete NCD screening

The screening covered 4.46 lakh people aged above 30 in the district

Chikkamagaluru has become the first district in the country to complete enrollment and screening of non-communicable diseases among people aged above 30.

With detailed planning and active participation of officers and workers on the ground, the screening was conducted for three months from September 2021 to identify people with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, besides cancers — oral, breast, and cervical.

 To make post-surgical monitoring handy for patients, Manipal Hospitals on Thursday entered into a strategic partnership with ConnectedLife, a health management solutions provider, to introduce Fitbit, an intelligent wearable, built on Google Cloud to monitor patients’ progress after high-risk surgeries and procedures. 

** Bengaluru entrepreneur , wife offer ₹105 cr. to IISc to set up centre for public health

Facility will be operational by 2024 and aims to encourage aspirants to pursue career in clinical research

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ajit Isaac, founder and chairman of Quess Corp, and his wife Sarah Isaac to set up a Centre for Public Health on its campus. They have committed ₹105 crore towards the centre, which will be called Isaac Centre for Public Health (ICPH). It will be located in the IISc Medical School’s Academic and Research block and span over 27,000 sq ft.  

The centre will be part of the postgraduate medical school soon to be established on campus. Earlier this year, philanthropist couples Susmita and Subroto Bagchi, and Radha and N.S. Parthasarathy had donated ₹425 crore to IISc to set up a postgraduate medical college and an 800-bed multi-specialty hospital on its Bengaluru campus. 

** HAL signs MoU with Safran to extend cooperation on chopper engines

The ground-breaking ceremony for a new facility of Helicopter Engines MRO Pvt Limited (HE-MRO), a joint venture of HAL and Safran, a French aerospace firm, was held at Sattari in Goa.

According to a release from HAL, an MOU was signed to extend their cooperation and explore opportunities for new helicopter engines in civil and military markets, reflecting their commitment to the Indian Government’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” towards achieving self-reliance in defence technologies and MRO.

R. Madhavan, CMD, HAL, Franck Saudo, CEO, Safran Helicopter Engines and senior officers from the Indian Armed Forces and HAL were present on the occasion.

** Indian scientists develop touch-free touch screen that cuts virus spread

Scientists from the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced and Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bengaluru have set up a semi-automated production plant for the production of printing-aided patterns, with resolution of around 300 Aum. These electrodes have potential uses in advanced touchless screen technologies.

** India’s first digital water bank sets up shop in Bengaluru

India, and possibly the world, got its first digital water bank, an initiative to aggregate water resources under a single platform, on Monday. 

Science and Technology Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, who inaugurated the water bank in Bengaluru, extended the state government’s full support for the initiative, undertaken by AquaKraft Ventures, a company that specialises in sustainable initiatives to provide drinking water and sanitation to all. 

** Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Technology Park launched in Karnataka

Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK), the first of its’ kind in the country, a not-for-profit foundation has been launched in the city on Monday.

ARTPARK promoted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bengaluru), with the seed capital of Rs 230 crore from the governments (Rs 170 crore from Centre and Rs 60 crore from the state government)

** Bengaluru Metro’s first vinyl-wrapped train flagged off to mark 75 years of Independence

The first Metro train in Bengaluru with its exterior wrapped completely in vinyl was inaugurated on Friday from Platform 2 of the Kempegowda Metro station towards Kengeri on its Purple Line. This initiative by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to commemorate 75 years of Independence was flagged off by its Managing Director Anjum Parwez at 10.15 am.
