** Karnataka third in medical consultations via eSanjeevani

Union Health Ministry’s flagship telemedicine service has registered more than three crore tele-consultations till now.

The state government has been awarded third place in the country for in number of medical consultations (25,03,995) through eSanjeevani platform at the Ayushman Bharath Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC) since its inception in December 2020. It is a doctor-to-doctor telemedicine service to provide general and specialised health services in rural areas through the ‘Hub-and-Spoke’ model.

The award was given in ‘Strengthening Healthcare to the Last Mile’ category to mark the 4th anniversary of the setting up of AB-HWCs. The Union Health Ministry’s flagship telemedicine service eSanjeevani has registered more than three crore tele-consultations and the state government has provided medical consultations to 47,68,123 people in total as on April 15.

The state stands third in the category where patients are provided the service at the HWCs after Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.

** 3D printed dancing robot designed by students of College Innovators @Nitte, Karkala

As everyone knows, robotics is revolutionizing many industries today. In this era of automation, students at College Innovators Innovation & Product Development (CIIPD) Center-Nitte, have come up with an innovative 3D printed dancing robot.

This robot was developed by a team of four, where the students came from diverse educational backgrounds like Engineering, MCA, BBA etc. Robot development was made possible by the use of a combination of technologies, the design and the robot’s body were created using 3D designing and modelling skills, and the robot operated with the help of microcontrollers, sensors, motors, etc. In fact, it is a matter of pride to see these students upgrade their skills and become industry-relevant.

Project to improve treatment of neurological disorders was launched January

Soon diagnosis and timely treatment of common neurological problems, such as epilepsy, headache, stroke, dementia and brain infections, can be done from the grassroots level of primary health centres, secondary-level district hospitals and NIMHANS at the tertiary level in the State.

Recognising the need to improve treatment and prevent neurological disorders in the community, the State Government in association with NIMHANS and Niti Ayog launched the Karnataka Brain Health Initiative (Ka-BHI) in January.

** Udupi: Stroke Awareness Programme, Guinness World Record of Most Pledges Plaque to Kasturba Hospital

Stroke is an important non communicable disease. One in four adults will experience a stroke in their lifetime. To raise the awareness about stroke, on the eve of World Stroke day October 29, 2021, department of Neurosciences, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal conducted stroke awareness campaign.

Kasturba Hospital, Manipal along with various other institutions in India participated in creating stroke pledges for awareness through a stroke assessment App as an initiative taken by BoehringerIngelheim India, and attempted to create a Guinness World Record of ‘Most pledges received for a stroke awareness campaign’.

Kasturba Hospital, Manipal gave significant contributions and by creating a total of 17,691 pledges all over India, a Guinness World Record was successfully created.

The hospital also conducted stroke screening activity by Blood pressure and blood sugar check along with stroke awareness and education to over 500 patients/participants attending KH OPD. The pledge registration for all attempt was held on the portal https://strokeriskcalculator.in.

They show how human brains expand rapidly in early life and gradually shrink as they age

An international team of researchers has created a series of brain charts spanning entire lifespan — from a 15-week-old foetus to a 100-year-old adult — that show how human brains expand rapidly in early life and gradually shrink as they age.

The charts are the result of a research project spanning six continents and bringing together almost 1,25,000 brain scans (MRIs) from over a 100 different studies. Authored by Richard Bethlehem from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge and Jakob Seidlitz from the Lifespan Brain Institute at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania, the study has been published online in Nature on April 6.

Indian researchers, from the Consortium on Vulnerability to Externalising Disorders and Addictions [cVEDA] led by scientists from NIMHANS — Bharath Holla from the Department of Integrative Medicine and Vivek Benegal from the Department of Psychiatry — contributed the Indian dataset to this collaboration.

** Bengaluru airport collaborates with Amazon to accelerate innovation in aviation

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), operator of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, is working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to establish a Joint Innovation Center (JIC) to drive the development and adoption of digital solutions in aviation.

The JIC will enable startups to accelerate innovation in aviation, smart infrastructure, utilities, and mobility by providing comprehensive programme offerings and a technical platform that helps customers innovate quickly by utilising AWS technology.

The JIC, the first such initiative dedicated to advancing the aviation industry, is expected to open at Bengaluru airport in 2022 and will focus on driving digital innovation for the airport, enhancing passenger experience, and creating a positive impact on the community where the airport operates.

** Organ donation: In a first, three green corridors created on a single day

Cadaveric organ donation got a boost in the city on Wednesday with three zero-traffic green corridors created on a single day to transport vital organs from different hospitals.

Authorities from Jeevasarthakathe, the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), which is the nodal agency that facilitates cadaver organ donations, said this is the first time that three green corridors had been created on a single day. There were back-to-back organ donations since Tuesday evening and two green corridors were also created on Tuesday night – one in Mangaluru and another in Bengaluru.

“We placed the requests for three green corridors with the Bengaluru traffic police in a gap of 30 minutes. While one green corridor was created at 10 a.m. on Wednesday from Manipal Hospitals on Old Airport Road to BGS Global Hospitals in Mysuru (to transport a liver), another was created at 10.30 a.m. from Aster RV hospital to MS Ramaiah-Narayana Hrudayalaya (to transport a heart). At 11 a.m., another corridor was created from the same hospital (Aster RV) to Bengaluru International airport to transport donated lungs to KIMS, Secunderabad

** HAL-Israel sign MoU for conversion civil aircraft into Multi Mission Tanker Transport Aircraft

In a move aimed at bolstering the ‘Make in India’ campaign, HAL has entered into a MoU with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to convert Civil (Passenger) aircraft to Multi Mission Tanker Transport (MMTT) aircraft in India.

The move will provide India’s defence ecosystem with new capabilities and cost effective solutions in the market. The MoU will facilitate HAL and IAI’s decades’ long expertise in developing, manufacturing and producing leading defence platforms.

The scope of MoU also covers “passenger to freighter aircraft” conversion along with MMTT conversions.

A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Delhi by D Maiti, CEO (MiG Complex), HAL and Yaacov Berkovitz, Vice President and General Manager, Aviation Group, IAI in the presence of Chandraker Bharati, JS (Aero), Ministry of Defence, Goveernment of India.

“We are glad to join hands with our long standing partner IAI in this venture of MMTT conversion business which is one of the strategic diversification avenues identified by HAL”, said R Madhavan, CMD, HAL.

Karnataka ranks first in renewable rich States with 15 GW of installed capacity base and another 9 GW of green capacity being under implementation

Karnataka distribution companies (discoms) have become the top seller of renewable energy under the Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM) at the Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IEX).

Power Company of Karnataka Limited (PCKL) has a market share of 74% on the sell side in IEX GTAM market since its inception, selling 2.67 billion units (BU) out of 3.6 BU on the exchange till January, 2022, IEX officials said, adding that Karnataka is now also leveraging the recently commenced Green Day Ahead Market (GDAM) for sale of its surplus renewable power.
